I'm going to assume this is fairly accurate. Just as importantly, the message and the style of the storytelling is beautiful. The pictures didn't work for me, but I know they're apt and I respect those that do love them. Even though Louisa is only 7 years old in the story, I'd not read it to the littlest children. I especially found it difficult to read about Louy's father's instructions for her - sure, he could have unconventional ideas and no job despite having a family to support, but she couldn't follow her own spirit? I'll have to do a bit of research on him.

Recommended if you're interested in either of the authors, or in finding one's voice or living in joy in G*'s creation or even just the history of New England before the American Civil War.

Parks for the People: The Life of Frederick Law Olmsted by Julie Dunlap
Story is about Frederick as he grows up in cities and loves the country and plants.
He is in a school where he stays til the summer months and he is so glad to get outside. His father then sets him up with a designer.
He had many other jobs: a year at sea, farming at the Getty estate, then his father gave him money to buy a farm.
Can't wait to visit a park that he designed that is within driving distance. Know we will be amazed at his knowledge through the gardens.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
