A lovely satisfying story following the fortunes of the Thornton family, who are trying to farm a dilapidated property. The children in the story are resourceful and realistic. The heroine, Lindsey, tries to protect a deer herd from a cull, then their Jersey calf goes missing and all sorts of traumas ensue. Plenty of detail about pony and farm life and with a nice cheerful ending - a great read. I'll look out for someone who would really like to read these and send them on eventually.

An interesting example of GO where the fantasy world hits realism. There are "insolent" village youths and some other quotes that made me smile:
"You don't know what a kick I've got out of finding four teenagers which I suppose you must be, with a thought besides pin-ups and pops."
It's a big change from the safe and secure fantasy world of GO when Lindsey says "You've only got to look about to see how people change their minds." (about love and marriage)

I find it difficult to believe that I am the only librarythinger with The White Riders!

This is a plucky-children-with-ponies story, but better written than many of its kind (although the author does not explore in sufficient detail the idea of 'leisure').
