I thought this was a very well illustrated and well written children's book. The story can be related to children who may be afraid of something and learn that it is okay to be afraid. The text and pictures come to life because they are elaborate and colorful and catch the readers attention.

This modern fantasy tell us how the imagination of an adventurous girl comes to life while playing with her toys, inviting us to travel around fantastic make believe worlds with fantastic characters with special powers. The girl travels deserts, mountains, the ocean, and jungles with her adventurous toys. A colorful story where the lines and shapes emphasize moments of trouble, but with victorious endings. Young readers will be delighted with the movements provoked by the subtle brush strokes of whites in a impressionist style to light up the scenes, in compass with the acrylics. They will feel the action with the big words in bold and the strenuous returning landing that ends with the words "and fell fast sleep"... The perfect book for children to play with their imagination, and at the same time learn about the existent different habitats.

The Friendly Witch, upset that she had received no cards, presents, or visitors for her birthday, decided to throw herself a party, and soon found her house packed to the rafters with every imaginable fairy-tale creature. From Beauty and the Beast, who arrived hand-in-hand, to the lamp-rubbing Aladdin, an amazing panoply of guests had soon arrived, leaving the witch with no time to think, and no peace and quiet in which to do it. And then: Shazam! She decided she'd had enough of this partying business. Or had she...?

An engaging enough tale, one with immensely appealing illustrations by Leo Broadley, The Friendly Witch might not be the cream of the crop, when it comes to witchy adventures (really, what could ever top Dorrie the Little Witch?), but it is still worth tracking down, for fans of this sort of thing. Although a tad indecisive, the Friendly Witch is an endearing heroine, and her party will amuse young readers who are fairy-tale fans, and able to pick out all the various characters.

"Wide Awake Jake" is the story of a little boy who just can't go to sleep. This book, with big, colorful pictures and descriptive sentences is perfect for children around age 5 or 6. In the story, Jake's mother tries to coax him to sleep by telling him to pretend he is a hibernating bear, a sleepy mouse, and a baby bird in it's nest. In a kindergarten setting, it would be a good story for kids before their nap time. It would also be kind of funny to tell the children to act like the animals in the book if they are having trouble settling down.

Just as I am is a book about a young elephant accepting his big, long nose. He and his friends paly games like hide and go seek but little elephant's nose keeps getting in the way of things and spoils all the games. Little elphant feels sad and doesn't like the way his nose is. When his mother comforts him and tells him how is nose can be great. Little elephant and his friends are playing in a waterhole so he decides to fill his trunk up and makes huge waves and fountains. Little elephant and his friends have a great time playing together and little elephant likes himself just the way he is.
This is would a great book to read to children to show how people are different and how it is a good thing.½
