This book didn't work for me. The story fails to create any real tension. The situation seems overly contrived. The ongoing narration trying to tie it to the previous Alex Barnaby stories are flat. The art is totally out of sync with the characters created in Metro Girl and Motor Mouth. I won't be bothering with the follow-up chapters.

Meh. That this is only Part 1 of 2 feels like a rip-off. There isn't enough story in Part 1 for it to deserve its own book. Insubstantial.

What I usually like about the author's writing is the wry narration and hero-heroine banter, and this medium (graphic novel) doesn't allow much for that.

Thanks anyway. Seesters over meesters.

From Goodreads:
Narrator Alex Barnaby 30 and NASCAR driver Sam Hooker fight crime the only way they know how - leaving a trail of chaos. Hooker's friends Rosa and Felicia call for help. To find a missing man, Alex and Sam go deep into the underbelly of Miami, survive Petro Voodoo, explosions, gift- wrapped body parts, a deadly swamp chase, and Hooker's mom.

Not a terrible story, mostly fluff which isn’t always a bad thing. Beware the cliffhanger though. The story may have failed to impress, but that artwork...wowzers. It’s fantastic! Totally worth reading the book for the art alone.

If I could give less than a star, I would. Although the illustrations are eye-catching and adorable (Hunter is a cartoon babe!), it wasn't enough for me to want to continue this series. In the beginning of the novel, I had a hard time figuring out what was even going on. I had to read several pages multiple times and still felt confused. We are randomly introduced to characters with a full page spread for each, EXCEPT for Rosa, the one character that everyone is concerned with saving. The story felt lacking and very short. I must say, I was rather disappointed. One of the reasons I like Evanovich is because she makes me laugh out loud. This only confused me and left me frustrated. Kudos to Joëlle Jones, though. Beautiful colors, bold images, wonderfully cute images that captivated me and kept me entertained while the story did not. I think in the future I'll look for more of Joëlle Jones work.

I like the story and the characters. The art work was quite good. Perhaps it is because I have read so many of Evanovich's other works in novel form that I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would. I missed the format of a novel for a story like this. There simply isn't enough space in the graphic novel to include all the delightful conversations and observations of her characters. This book was okay, but knowing I can get even more from one of her novels, I will be returning to that genre for this author.

If you know Janet Evanovich, you know what to expect. Female lead character gets drawn into an adventure (this time kidnapping and voodoo) male sidekick blames her for the messes he sometimes creates while trying to save her, things aren't always straightforward in the resolution and there's a big dog involved in this.

I like that Barnaby is independent, though I think that with all the running around she gets involved with she needs more sensible shoes.½

Really well illustrated. The story line is a bit rough ~ skips in continuity ~ but it does hang together. The cliff-hanger ending sort of makes you want to read the next installment, but could be stronger.

This was fun. The storyline does support those that have gone before in the 'regular' books.

I haven’t read any of the other Barnaby stories but when this one just happened to be at the library I thought it would be a quick and fun read.

It makes me very excited to pick up the first of the graphic novels as well as the actual books I’ve been collecting on the series to hopefully read soon.

In this particular volume, the crew sets sail to find the wooden body that matches up with a recently acquired wooden hand, in hopes that it will save all their lives – protect them from the original owners and the voodoo that might follow them should they choose to keep it.

It was quite a fun and quick read.

I am not sure what I can say that is new. Because this is the second half, and I already reviewed the first half. I did like the way it wrapped up. It was a cute story. I will say I prefer the Barnaby novels to these. But it was a fun experiment, and a nice change.

This is the 3rd book, and I haven't read the 1st or 2nd in the series. The art is bright and peppy. It reminds me of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels, with similarly shallow and wise-cracking characters, only now in Miami. Not much there, there.

The graphic novel Troublemaker is the third in Janet Evanovich's Alex Barnaby series following two print novels - Metro Girl and Motor Mouth. I had no problem following the graphic novel without having read the previous books. The short character introductions were invaluable.

Troublemaker is wonderfully drawn. I enjoy graphic novels with clean lines and crisp colors over heavily shaded or unnecessarily complicated drawings and Troublemaker was absolutely perfect in that respect.

Book One of Troublemaker begins an exciting story involving voodoo and kidnapping. It was full of Evanovich's trademark humor and romantic mystery. The flow of the story story did feel a little choppy at times and felt short on words, even for a graphic novel.

Troublemaker: Book One consists of the first four chapters of the story, which is normal for graphic novels but may annoy Evanovich's print fans that are venturing into this media for the first time. Troublemaker: Book One is a fun read and is sure to attract many of Evanovich's longtime fans. It isn't quite as addicting as her usual fare, but it's a solid start and has good crossover potential.

Having already read Motor Mouth and Metro Girl from the same series I felt this strayed pretty far from the previous stories and not because it was a comic book. The character of Alex(Barney) is much girlier and less mechanic. The whole reason I liked Barney was that she was tough and didn't try to fit the stereotypical girl. Suddenly she is all feminine and worried about ruining her shoes. It is as though she turned into Stephanie Plum! If the series continues in this direction, I believe I will no longer follow it as my hero Barney has become a sell out.
