Science fact/fiction von Edmund J. Farrell
I remember reading selections from this book in high school. Somewhere I obtained the text during a sale of older materials. Some very good stories.
This was a college (or maybe high school)textbook and it reads like one, compiled by people who went looking for "important" stories and essays (which are very dated science now, of course).
It was compiled by a board of teachers, not necessarily SF fans (but, who knows?), and includes class questions and commentary.
The occasional footnotes were uneven, explaining things that I take for granted, and omitting ones I would have thought useful to students.
That said, the writing quality of the selections is high, and although I didn't enjoy all of them, I appreciated their insights and relevance to history of the field.… (mehr)

Intended for school use, with the usual dumb Questions for Discussion, but a great collection of stories.
