Un libro evocador y nostálgico, aunque a mi gusto le faltó un poquin.

Sin duda, Ferrada, es ya un referente de la poesía para niñas y niños. Cercano, amoroso y a la vez crudo, este homenaje a los desaparecidos y lo que nos dejan.

A poetic, sad novella about searching for home, peace and understanding amidst the anger and sorrow of the world. Ramon makes an unconventional choice of home. He looks up to the skies and to nature for meaning, quiet and solace.

Neighbors in the local housing development live with minimal privacy. Virtually everyone knows everyone's business. Poverty makes them feel its their right to gossip and criticize others like Ramon and especially those who have less like the homeless living in shanties on the shore.

A strong morality tale of love turning to hate; of jealousy, and pain. Possibly a religious parable of a man separating himself from human corruption to get closer to the spirit of the universe? Would such a man need beer on his mission as Ramon does?

Why do Ramon and Miguel's father absent themselves when the going gets tough leaving their wives behind causing heartbreak.

Beautifully written.

I read this charming little book in one sitting. I'm sure I missed some subtle nuances since I'm not familiar with the history of Pinochet-era Chile, but I really enjoyed this nonetheless.

Racconto di crescita di una fantastica bambina che diventa ragazzina nel lungo viaggio della vita di bambina in compagnia del padre, commesso viaggiatore per la ditta di ferramenta Kramp, nascosta da una madre assente e invisibile e dalla scuola che frequenterà un giorno sì e tre no. Ma di una madre e di una scuola non avrà bisogno la piccola, perché a insegnarle la vita ci penseranno il padre e il suo lavoro, il catalogo di prodotti Kramp, i colleghi del padre.
È una storia assurdamente folgorante, coinvolgente e che tocca tantissimi argomenti in poco più di 100 pagine. Veloce e netta come un fulmine ti spacca il cervello, ogni pagina un punto di riflessione, per ogni frase quasi ci sarebbe da scriverne un libro a parte.
Con una narrazione serrata ma rilassata l'autrice ci accompagna in quelli che sono i momenti che una bambina passerà a crescere in modo parallelo alla vita che avrebbe dovuto vivere. E con poche parole la vita di una famiglia, anzi, di più di una.
Lascia assolutamente esterrefatti il finale, che non anticiperò nemmeno sul blog, dove avrete un pensiero più esteso di quello che è il mio parere.

A beautiful told coming of age tale featuring 7 year old M as her childlike view of the world slowly dissolves as the realities of Pinochet era Chile intrude.

How to Order the Universe by María José Ferrada, translated by Elizabeth Bryer is told from a child's perspective – “M”, a child who idealizes her father but whose idealism is one day shattered. Presumably, it is her attempt at seeing an order to her own universe. The ending leaves me wondering what happens in the future which is a statement to the success of the story and the storytelling.

Poems and illustrations are wonderful; it is hard to read/understand how children can be executed by governments.
These poems are for the 34 Chilean children who were either executed, or 'disappeared' under Pinochet.

This intense novel shows a child’s perception of what is happening in Chile during the Pinochet-era. M travels with her father, a salesman. As his sidekick, she’s responsible for “guilting” the hardware suppliers into buying from her father. But when they meet a photographer, identified as “E” the lives of both father and daughter are put in danger. Escaping from a night of gunfire M finds herself alone and M returns to her mother. Ferrada has published several children’s novels. This is her debut adult title, and she understands children, in this unsettling, quickly read story.
