From the title of the first chapter, “Procrastination is a curse, yet green worms that surprise are worse,” in Award Winning Author Margot Finke’s new book, DAISY AND BARTHOLOMEW Q., I knew this story was going to be a fun read. I was not disappointed.

Daisy’s essay is due tomorrow and the teacher said the students have to use a thesaurus. Daisy has a problem using a thesaurus, so what’s a girl to do? Enter a bright Green Worm named Bartholomew Q. Bookworm (of course, what else could his name be?) to the rescue, and almost anything can happen and does. From the time he appears to help Daisy, there’s never a dull moment. The author has created delightful characters that will have young readers giggling and turning pages to see what happens next. Along the way, the readers just might learn a few new words, right along with Daisy, as they together, discover the magic of a thesaurus.

Cute black-and-white illustrations by Illustrator Ioana Zdralea add a whimsical touch to the story. The question is, will Daisy complete her essay in time? Only Daisy and Bartholomew Q. know, and those who read Daisy’s story.

DAISY AND BARTHOLOMEW Q. would make a great addition to school libraries, school classrooms where the teacher and students can read the book together, public libraries, and of course your own personal library.

The author provided me with a PDF of the book for my honest review.

I received an autographed copy of this in a giveaway the author had, and the following is my honest opinion for the book.

The first thing one will notice about the story the author has created is that it has been written entirely in rhyme. While it’s not like the entertaining Dr. Seuss books I remember as a child, it does expose its young readers to poetry.

The poetry helps to draw whoever reads the book into the history of the Australian Aborigines and the lives they led before the “invasion” of white settlers with their diseases and unfriendly ways towards Mother Earth, in a way plain writing never would.

Before they came, the Aborigines lived in harmony with nature. Ms. Finke does a marvelous job in bring their struggle to survive in the modern day world while keeping their antiquity way of life alive. And to do so with as few words, makes it more amazing.

The glossary of Aussie words at the end of the book aids the reader in a better understanding of the story they’re reading. The illustrations, by Ioana Zdrelea vividly match the words it has been placed with.

This is why I’m not hesitating in giving this book the 5 STARS it so richly deserves.

Robin Leigh Morgan is the author of a MG/YA Paranormal Romance novel entitled “I Kissed a Ghost” as well as the author of “Micro Fiction – An Anthology.”

Margot Finke has written another rhyming picture book destined to be loved by children. "Read it again." will be insisted by children that have problem's that seem as big as a hippo's fat behind.

The teacher/parent guide promotes discussion about a child's attitude and treatment of others when dealing with big changes. The discussion will bring a child's feelings out in the open. Children learning to examine their feelings in this manner will develop a lifelong skill.
