Nichola Goddard was the first female Canadian soldier to die in combat. She was also the first soldier since the Korean War to call in a fire mission. These historical facts alone make her story worth telling.

But, that's not what this book is about, and that's not what Captain Goddard was about. This well written and well researched book tells about the life of Nichola Goddard, and how she came to choose a career in the armed services. Nichola was fiercely bright and a natural leader. Hers is a story about a soldier's life, about love and friendship and about living your life with a purpose. Captain Goddard is an inspirational role model not only for those in the military, but for anyone who wants to make a difference in the world (or in their corner of it).

The author uses the many letters and e-mails Nichola sent to family and friends, as well as personal interviews with the family, to build a portrait of a Canadian hero. Ms. Fortney's admiration for Captain Goddard comes through, but never detracts from the story. A very powerful book.… (mehr)
