This thrilling story revolves around the tragic murder of a girl that has haunted Jonathan Stride for ten years. Michaela Mateo, whom Stride was in love with, was murdered by her husband, Marty, before he killed himself, leaving their daughter, Cat, as an orphan. Stride always felt he had failed Michaela, and now he finds himself able to help Cat, who a ruthless killer is hunting down. As the bodies pile up, Jonathan tries to protect Cat while juggling his relationships with Maggie and Selena. The Cold Nowhere is another engaging story in the series with a gripping and twisty plot that keeps you hooked until the end. I couldn't put this book down.

I loved this book! The Burying Place has everything. A missing baby, a psychotic killer, and several romantic entanglements. The suspenseful, eerie descriptions of the lonely rural countryside, the suffocating fog, and the abandoned school! Oh my God! Brian, were you doing research inside a creepy building, or did you make all that up? The dripping water, broken glass, rotting wood, and the smells. It all gave me the creeps. Besides the tremendous descriptive writing, the plot was a mind-blower. I can usually figure out where the author is going at some point, but this one was very twisty and very surprising. My one complaint was Jonathan Stride's macho attitude. Yes, he was having PTSD panic attacks. I've experienced them myself, so I know how debilitating they are, but when you are going through something like that, you run to someone for help. You can't handle that stuff on your own. With that said, I still love this character and this series.

This was my first Jason Bourne novel and I must admit that I enjoyed it a lot more than I would have thought. I'm a sucker for traditional espionage and this had it all: handsome men and beautiful women, nefarious plots, exotic destinations and brilliant enemies. There was a tendency to rely on clichés, and some of the scenes were a bit too cinematographic for my taste (it reads weird), but overall I did have fun. I might even be convinced to pick up another in the series.½

Lt Jon Strike is forced to confront his past when someone arrives writing the story of his sister-in-law's murder and uncovers new facts. Good use of the Lake Superior, Duluth setting.

The storyline is interesting and pulled me right in. The closer I got to the end of the book, the more engrossed I became. But what really compelled me to read this book was the writing style. I read a lot of Kindle samples of books that I don't order. Mostly because the style of writing isn't appealing for a variety of reasons -- too wordy/descriptive being the biggest culprit. I especially enjoy a good mystery with suspense. The descriptions, conversation, thoughts, and plot were balanced in this story. It kept moving. Didn't bog down. It has a puzzling magnetic draw.

In the Dark, the fourth in the Jonathan Stride series is a suspenseful thriller about jealousy, lost love, and revenge. When Tish, an old friend of Jonthan's deceased wife, Cindy, returns to Duluth—supposedly to write a book about a thirty-year-old murder—Jonathan's world is turned upside down. Forced to reopen the murder case of his wife's sister, Laura, the investigation unearths old secrets that some people think were better left buried. As usual, the plot twists are many and surprising. I liked how the author reveals more of Jonathan's past, even though he almost kills our hero in the process. I must say, this book does not speak well of the inhabitants of small rural towns in the northeast. I won't be visiting Duluth anytime soon.

Quick read, with an ending that I didn't see coming!
Lisa Power is an acclaimed author who wrote a bestseller about her hometown, Thief River Falls. A young boy appears in her yard, after the police have come to her house. The young boy doesn't remember his name or how he got there. Lisa calls him Perdue, the same name as the boy in her book. As the story progresses, Lisa tries to keep Perdue safe from the men who were chasing him. She can't trust anyone, even those she thought were her friends.
The hints are all there, but I was so engrossed in the story that I missed them, although I was puzzled by some of the things mentioned. If I thought about it, I could have understood that the ending would be a shocker.

Pulled me in!

This novel pulled me from the very first page. I could not put it down, and in a few hours, I had finished the entire book. It was that engrossing. I was able to envision each character, place, and everything that was transpiring. Mr. Freeman certainly has a knack for storytelling and keeping the reader involved. I was moved to tears a few times, literally, and that doesn't happen often to me. I look forward to reading more works from Mr. Freeman.

In the third Jonathan Stride story, a psychopathic serial killer is on the loose. Actually, more than one psychotic murderer is stalking the streets. Lieutenant Stride is back in Duluth, living with Serena and heading up the police department. His old partner, Maggie, now married to Eric, is still harboring a crush on her boss, but Serena and Jonny seem settled and happy. Then Serena—now a PI—takes on a new case for Dan Erickson, the region's county attorney and chief prosecutor. This is when the book literally explodes with action. Fair warning – women are very much the victims in this story. There's lots of explicit sex and rapes too. But if you're not squeamish, this book is a non-stop roller coaster ride.

Stride's best friend Steve confesses to him: "About The Deeps. I found the body after you left, and I took care of it. I buried him" and then dies. Stride know which body he's talking about. Seven years ago a reporter disappeared investigating a rape allegation from an anonymous source about a prominent Duluth politician. Stride opens and recuses himself from the case as the number one suspect since he was the last to see the reporter alive. Maggie and Serena start piecing together the reporters last day and the information he was sitting on. The rape allegation is from almost thirty years in the past and memories are fuzzy, lies are told, and suspicion is falling on a lot of people. Stride picks at pieces from the past while being "on leave" from the force and is also trying to keep Cat safe. She has acquired a stalker from her take down of a hollywood legend the year previous. Things take a turn when Cat is shot at in the woods while Serena and Maggie are closer to finding a murderer and rape victim. Things come to a head with a final showdown including a murderer, a stalker, a politician, and death. Explosive, thrilling, & heartbreaking.

Freeman is my favorite author and this book just didn't do it for me. It was sometimes hard to follow and convoluted. The decisions that Lisa (A famous author) made throughout the book were sketchy and hard to follow. The twist was a let down. I'll stick with his other books that I love

Frost is on the case when his estranged friend Denny, whom he hasn't seen in years, dies on his door step. Denny whispers one cryptic word to Frost and it sets off a chain of events that has Frost investigating Denny's life and business. Teaming up with a P.I., Frost learns not all is as it seems and there's no one to trust as the two of them tie multiple murders over the years with an urban legend that is decidedly real. Wealthy business owners, politicians, escorts, and possibly bad cops has Frost questioning everything as he tries to uncover why Denny was killed. More murders and attempts on his life has Frost in a killer's cross hairs who will stop at nothing to silence the investigation. Fast paced & unputdownable with a shocking twist!

Another riveting Stride mystery. A case from Stride's high school years involving his dead wife's sister's murder that was never solved. An old classmate comes to town writing a book about the unsolved murder and provides evidence and clues that may or may not help the cold case. Revisiting his past, Stride is plunged into murder, deceit, unanswered questions about his late wife, old resentments, and crooked colleagues. He & Maggie work to untangle the webs that have been cast for so many years while Serena is seemingly working with the enemy. Trying to piece the past and present together draws out a murderer, a stalker, & new suspects that throw Stride off his game.

Frost is faced with damaging new evidence that will set Cutter, a serial killer free (his sister Katie's killer) implicating one of his close friends in the process. Turning in the evidence sets the killer free and Frost has his work cut out for him to get Cutter convicted again. His own family and the victim's families are upset with him creating a rift between Frost & his brother Duane. Duane is seeing Tabby who was best friends with one of the victims and complicates things for Frost with their uneasy attraction. Journalist Eden Shay has studied and followed Cutter from the start and is just coming off of her own published story of her attack that was similar to the serial killers when she offers all of her information to Frost as long as she can tag along and embed herself in the investigation. Frost doesn't trust the journalist but there's a pull of attraction that starts to cloud judgements. A shocking murder happens and Frost has to prove Cutter is responsible while also being taunted by him at the same time. Delving deeper into the past, there are some things that still don't make sense of Katie's death and trying to tie all of the victims together at long last brings Frost, Cutter, Eden, and Tabby on a collision course with disaster and death. An explosive outcome with surprises galore.

An introduction to Frost Easton, SFPD Homicide. Formerly a non practicing lawyer, Alcatraz tour guide, & charter boat captain, he lives in a swanky mansion owned by his adopted cat, Shack. After his sister Katie was murdered he joined the police force and is the "Boy Scout" always following the evidence and dong the right thing. An intriguing case involving a psychiatrist who hypnotizes and erases bad memories for people. A few of her patients have ended up dead and she has gaps in her own memory about her father's death. Frost investigates the strange deaths that include a haunting song, a new friend who wants her phobia erased, the psychiatrist who's hiding something, & a cunning killer who is always one step ahead. Twisty, thrilling, fast paced, & had me guessing until the end to reveal the killer.

The annual Duluth marathon is underway and right at the end of the race, BOOM goes a bomb. The city is set off in a rage after a very public figure incites vigilantism against the Muslims that she deems responsible for the bombing with no proof or reasoning. Protected by the 1st amendment she continues to spew her rhetoric on twitter along with her followers and pretty soon Stride, Maggie, Serena, & the FBI have more crime on their hands as they struggle to piece together the bombing, potential suspects, peace between the Muslim population that has nothing to do with the bombing, & an unstable FBI agent. Too many suspects, trying to stay ahead of false internet information, & more murders spurs the investigation in too many directions. Stride has a different viewpoint on who is really responsible, Maggie ties up too many coincidences, & Serena pieces together other leads. All while the city is on edge and people are taking the law into their own hands, Stride keeps a level head to get to the bottom of the smokescreens to nab the real bomber.

Jonathan, Maggie, & Serena are working cases that are seemingly unrelated. Stride is still having problems from his accident & isn't dealing with it well while driving a wedge between him & Serena. A kidnapped child, farmland murders, & an emotionless surgeon with a handful of mistresses. Suspects & mystery intertwine while Stride tries to decipher why women are being murdered & their bodies are missing, Serena is trying to get to the bottom of the missing child case, & Maggie is burning both ends. Surprising revelations and twists & turns had me guessing through the entire book

A great kick off to a series introducing Cab Bolton (rich, wandering, police detective) A death at a dance competition sets off a chain of events dating back six years. A small town death, a missing murderer, and a teacher accused of inappropriate behavior with a student is all mixed in this mystery. Lots of layers and intrigue with a dash of mistrust. A study on how far people will go to protect secrets, lies, and murders in a tight knit community where outsiders aren't welcome.
