I read parts 1 and 2 back to back and thoroughly enjoyed them both. It was an interesting twist on vampires, and more. There's plenty of room for more story left in the series, and I will be anxiously awaiting further books...

This anthology was a delightful surprise. There wasn't a single story I didn't like, and many I loved. Even a few that were only a several pages long on the Kindle. One short story is actually a 5-chapter excerpt from the author's Dark Soul Silenced series, which worked perfectly as a short story. I so enjoyed the story, I immediately went out and bought the two books in the series. I just finished those and loved them.

Clunky

Somehow, a teenage boy who was born and raised as a slave of a pretty brutal...place...is able to control a magic ship that is better than anything else in space. He has extensive knowledge of things that don’t seem to be normal for a slave to know and feelings that are not in keeping with a slave background.

The whole thing just flops along without developing a narrative flow. Things simply happen. There is no depth. World building is largely absent.

Admittedly I am only 50pgs in, but there should be far more structure at this point. Two stars is a gift, but there aren’t many proofreading errors, so...

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I really have enjoyed the series so far but this one has to be the best by far. The excitement starts right up and barley slows down for you to catch your breathe, There are so many things happening and all coming together to a fantastic ending. Just when you think there couldn't possibly be more here it comes BAM!! Great read!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. The story line was decent although redundant in some parts. An interesting concept for the writer to explore and he does a decent job. Although you can get lost in the sometimes tedious conversation which cause the characters to dig deep there is enough going on to keep you flipping the page to find out what happens next. With this being a new writer and book 1 in the series I am looking forward to book 2 and seeing the growth not only of the writer but of the characters.

23 of 75 for 2015. I've read a lot of science fiction in my day. I remember reading Heinlein's Podkayne of Mars in fifth grade, but even earlier there were the Danny Dunn books from the Weekly Reader Children's Book Club. At one point in my academic career, I even wanted to write a book studying classic French SciFi. This book, while full of action and even mildly interesting characters, just doesn't do it for me. It was a struggle to get through the last quarter of the book, and not just because the British English past participle of sit is sat, not seated. (It drives me crazy to read "He is sat," which happens too frequently in Wanderer's Escape.) No, it just felt as if the book went on a bit too long. The ship is amazing, and the story line of prisoner slaves who are freed by the ship and then go on to free others is a good story line, even with the treachery and betrayal that of necessity follows. This is the first book in a series, but I'm not sure I'm ready to go on to books two, three, etc. Your mileage may vary.
