Adelaide L. J. Gosset (1855–1936)

A collection of essays on sheep, shepherds and sheepdogs by a variety of authors, including Adelaide Gosset herself (who was mainly the editor or compiler of this work) from about 1830 to 1910, including some infinitely quotable articles about working sheepdogs throughout the British Isles and Ireland. Ms Gosset herself is a mystery. Why would a single woman, living in the late 19th, early 20th century, in an English town, become interested enough in the lives of shepherds that she would do research and write a book about them? One might as well ask why Daisy Bates gave up a similar life in a similar era and went to live among the Aborigines of Australia.… (mehr)
