This story tells of a old lady named Miss Tizzy. She does special things with the children each day of the week. One day Miss Tizzy does not come out and the kids are unsure what is wrong. The kids did exactly the same thing that Miss Tizzy do with them.

This book tells a great tale about Miss Tizzy and children. She does things with them, like baking, skating, playing musical instruments and putting on puppet shows. She teaches and encourages them to be children and enjoy themselves. When she falls ill one day, the children do all of these things when she cant, all to make her feel better and she loves it. This book showcases the respect, love, compassion, and bond that Miss Tizzy and the children have. I believe that this book can teach children about caring for others and to enjoy themselves and life. As a reader, this book showed me the importance of spending quality time with people that you love and that compassion is essential. This book can teach young readers how to make friends, and be there for others in their times of need.

I enjoyed this book because the story was very touching and inspiring. This book is about a beloved woman named Miss Tizzy. She spent a lot of time with the children in the neighborhood by planning different fun activities for them to do. For example the text states, "On Mondays, Miss Tizzy baked cookies. She let the neighborhood children put in the raisins, and then lick the bowl while the cookies were baking. The children loved it." Throughout the story Miss Tizzy grows ill and is forced to stay in bed so the children did everything they could to comfort her. For example, "On Monday, they backed cookies with raisins and brought them to the pink house [Miss Tizzy's house]. On Tuesday, they stood in the yard and help up puppets to the window. They put on a puppet show just for Miss Tizzy." The main idea behind this book is that just one adult in a child's life can provide an outstanding role model for him/her. Miss Tizzy was a role model for all of the children in the neighborhood and even when she grew sick, the children still kept up with the traditions Miss Tizzy made for them.

Why didn't I love this beautiful book? And why are almost all of the reviews by teachers or wannabe teachers? And what would children think of it? I don't know... I'd like some of my GR friends who read picture-books to read & review this....

My Mama Had a dancing heart is about a young girl who was encouraged by her mother to dance. Her mother was a beautiful dancer who helped to teach her daughter everything she knew. The daughter grew up to be a wonderful and amazing ballerina and she remembers her mother by doing what she loves and honoring her.

I like "Little Lil and The Swing-Singing Sax" for two reason. the first reason was the language that it was written in. The story portrays a family that lives during the Jazz Age. The uncle plays the saxophone and gives it up when he needs to sell it for medicine so that Lil's mother can recover from her illness. The language is very relevant to the time period including passages such as “At night, he blew into a low-moaning saxophone in a swinging-singing jazz club where he could make the people laugh and he could make the people cry when he played that sad-sighing horn.” The second reason I liked the book was for its illustrations. The pages are very colorful and filled with musical inspirations, such as the uncle playing his saxophone. Overall, the big idea of the story is that family is the most important aspect and should always be there to support one another. The uncle gave up his saxophone for Lil's mother's heath, and Lil gave up her sparkling ring for her uncles saxophone again.

I didn't really like this book. I didn't quite understand what the point of the book was. One specific reason why I didn't like the book was because there was no real character development. I felt like the main girl in the story was simply retelling her childhood, but there is no connection to the reader as to why this retelling is important.
Another reason I disliked this book was because I just couldn't pick out the main idea. The book is about a girl and her mother dancing, but that seemed to be as deep as it went. Overall, not my favorite book by a long shot.

My Mama Had a Dancing Heart was a very enlightening book. It tells the story of a girl and her mother and how the mother served as her role model. The main message in this book is tradition and remembrance. The reasons why I liked this book was the pictures and the plot. The pictures were very dark and the illustrator did a great job mixing the colors and creating a texture. For example, the dresses looked like they were flowing in the wind. I also liked the plot because their dancing was a way to celebrate each season. Also their dance was a bond between mother and daughter and that bond was so special to each of them. Overall I liked this book but it was not one of my favorites.

This heartwarming story is told using internal rhyme that occasionally pops up in a picture book format. It is about the bond between mother and daughter, and how that bond helps to shape the daughter as she grows up. Through the beautifully illustrated color pictures, we see the closeness between them as they dance and live out the seasons together, and we get to see the daughter growing up until at the last she becomes a ballerina, due to her mother’s influence. We get to view special moments between them, as the daughter remembers wax-paper pressing leaves and drinking spiced hot tea during winter. The illustrations help to create a warm, intimate ambiance throughout the book and tell the story of a carefree, joyous mother and her loving daughter. Girls will love this book. Ages 2 – 8.

Cute story about animals that get caught in the rain and a little old lady and her sleeping husband who let them all come in to share the warm bed. Finally a skunk is allowed in and the other animals riot and wake everybody up and leave the house. Eventually they realize the skunk is just like them and needed shelter from the storm. They all come back to the house, are welcome again by the woman and her husband, and have breakfast together.

A tribute to a girl's mother, who had a dancing heart and passed on a love of life and dance to her daughter. Told with a lilting rhythmic beat and great word combinations: "We'd dance a frog-hopping, leaf-growing, flower-opening, hello spring ballet."

This is an example of realistic fiction. This story could easily happen in present day life and it allows the reader to imagine living in this lifestyle without actually living it. It teaches the students about different life experiences. This book is appropriate for late primary and early intermediate students. The media used is watercolor.½
