In the lead up to the Annihilation: Conquest crossover event we get a mix of the kinds of silly, overly serious nonsense reserved for younger readers willing to buy into comic machismo but you also get issues of Starlord. I'll admit, I'm only reading these in anticipation of the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie but to that effect the Starlord issues are highly entertaining. Much of their pull comes from having a set of eclectic characters trying to work together in not so obvious ways. The fact that one of them doesn't work out so well just goes to show how dedicated the writers are to character driven action despite the greater plot being more or less contrived. So I guess I recommend this collection but only for the Starlord limited series.

Really had a lot of fun with this series. Having Bug included was definitely a bonus. I'm a huge Micronauts fan. The art was great and I loved reading about all these characters I had either not read much about or only barely heard of.

Really enjoyed Star Lord #1-#4... great stuff, great character (PETER QUILL FTW) & I really like the art (clean lines just do it for me - lel). Also... Rocket Racoon is GREAT! And Groot is... verbose! Different from their GotG movie versions (Star Lord too)... but definitely no less terrific! Cannot wait to get to the first volume of GotG. Lel.

The Quasar books were okay... didn't enjoy them as much as the Star Lord books though. Haha.

Annihilation: Conquest Book One was good stuff, much better than I expected it to be, especially because I am unfamiliar with most of Marvel's "cosmic" comic books of late. This volume contains the Annihilation Saga one-shot at the end of it. Since I have not read Annihilation, I read that part first, which helped bring me up to speed on the story so far. The book also contains two four-issue series: Annihilation: Conquest: Star Lord, and Quasar, and a one-shot prologue that introduces both of those titles' characters and the techno-infectious Phalanx who invade Kree space. My lack of familiarity with most of the characters in this book did not stop me from understanding them or enjoying the stories. Star-Lord was especially fun, with a ragtag group of alien prisoners sent on a suicide mission against the Phalanx. I will definitely seek out more of Marvel's "cosmic" comics based on this read.
