Like so many cozy mysteries, this was more of a romance novel than a mystery. I may just give up on the genre. In this case the lead character is unusually incompetent and stupid, the secondary characters numerous and totally forgettable. In fact when the reveal of the murderer came I wasn't really sure who it was. Well, it was free, and a quick read to up my book count for the year.

Great start to a new series!

I'll admit it took me a few chapters to get into the book, but once I did, I could not put it down I really enjoyed the chemistry between deacon and test. And I like the little sneak peek within the book of what's to come with elias and Miller! Ready to start the next one!

Excellent!

Great continuation of the Gravediggers series! Another home run. Elias and Miller's romance is one for the history books. Looking forward to the next in the series!

Short but sweet

G rat short before the next AH book. Savage is a tease and makes it hard for Addison to say no. I hope we get to see more of Aunt Scarlet....she’s a hoot!

Terrific

I really hope this isn’t the end of Addison and Nick and their crazy band of family and friends...I laughed out loud so many times. There should be series about Scarlet and Savage. Excellent story as usual!

Great story!

Absolutely love these books! This one definitely took a twist that I didn’t expect. I hope to see more of J and Jack. The way the author writes these characters makes me feel as if they were real people! I fall easily into the stories and can’t put the book down!

A nice homage to the seven deadly sins

I loves how the author pulled in the seven deadly sins into the story. I love Jack and Jay together. I like the little twist that the author added to the story, not what I expected. But as usual this terrific team wrapped it all up! Can’t wait for the next book!

Way too short. The plot had potential for a lot of expansion, but all the sex got in the way of what could have been a great story. It was impossible to get a sense of who the characters were to each other or could be in the future. I can't accept a happily ever after without any work. I need more to this story.

They're all crazy--and that's a good thing!
Lively and fun this troupe of relatives/private investigators is on the trail of some serious thieves who drug unsuspecting people (in more than one state) and remove saleable internal organs. Backstory is Addison's ongoing thing with the police detective whose family doesn't approve. A laugh a minute.
Narrator Connie Ventress does the best she can with all of the (too many) female characters.

Read in less than a day. The author has a sense of humor and writes in a similar vein to Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum mysteries, but with a bit less physical comedy.

Started out like a pretty good who-dun-it serial killer mystery with a little three-way romance mixed in. Not the kinky kind - the Guy and Girl are friends since childhood but nothing more until the new guy shows up and sweeps her off her feet making the old friend a little jealous….that kind of three way.

The murder mystery clues seemed to be leading somewhere but things are not even close to being wrapped up. Since the clues weren't pointing to anyone in particular but to so many different people there was no way to narrow anything down yet. Then suddenly here's the killer, admitting to everything and wrapping it all up in about a page and a half. The murderer is someone who they never even mentioned in the book until the last few pages. It just didn't make any sense. Of course the main character is attacked by the killer at the end and is of course saved my her long time friend and wakes up in the hospital to see him sitting at her bed-side, before she passes out again. But then BAM! The End!! Books over! I was left feeling cheated by this book. There was no closure!! There was so much more that could have been written and other ways it could have gone that would have made more sense. I think the author was setting up for sequels, because there are three more. But after reading this first book, I may not continue on with the series.

Pretty ordinary all around. The love happened so fast that it was unbelievable. I had a hard time staying interested enough to finish it.

The story was just ok and really on the slow side. The characters were all college students, who are all genius level nerds, that belong to a group that live life through science and role-playing. One of them is killed in front of thousands of people. I won't even go into how that is accomplished. The hunt is now on to find the murderer. I think most mystery readers will be able to find the killer before half the book is done. I have no idea why Blake Steed is thrown in the mix for no apparent reason other than to maybe spice up the book. It didn't really work for me. His appearance as her new assistant was short lived and seemed to have no place in the storyline. Not a bad read by any means but I've read much better by this author...but it is getting to the end of the series½

v weird opening - teacher goes into the strip club to become stripper on the side, does one dance in front of the whole club, doesn't get the job and on her way out finds a corps next to her car. wtf?
it would've been fine if I writing was good, but it wasn't.
just didn't like it at all

I thoroughly enjoyed the main character's narration. I enjoyed the small town scenes. I did not enjoy that I didn't suspect the murderer. It made all my involvement seem pointless.½

J.J. Graves has seen a lot of dead bodies in her line of work...

She's not only in the mortuary business, but she's also the coroner for King George County, Virginia. When a grisly murder is discovered in the small town of Bloody Mary, it's up to J.J. and her best friend, Detective Jack Lawson, to bring the victim justice.

The murders are piling up...

When a popular mystery writer shows up on J.J.'s doorstep with plans of writing his new book about the Bloody Mary Serial Killer, J.J. has to decide if he might be going above and beyond the call of duty to create the spine tinglers he's so well known for.

And passions are rising...

J.J and Jack discover each victim had a shocking secret, and the very foundation of J.J.'s life is in danger of crumbling when it turns out she's harboring secrets of her own--secrets that make her a perfect target in a deadly game.

Addison Holmes, a high school history teacher, because she needs the extra money decides to become a stripper. But she only lasts for one routine before a murder occurs at her workplace. Fortunately her best friend runs a detective agency and she is employed doing surveillance work.
I did find some funny moments (but also a couple of places needed a better editor) but there were times when Addison's life was just too chaotic, she never seems to think about the consequences of her actions, and maybe there were too many times that her body would hit some object.
But overall I found it an enjoyable story helped by the detective Nick Dempsey, so I shall probably try the next in the series.

J.J. Graves has finally returned home to Bloody Mary. Unfortunately she discovers a body, a tortured body. But it's not the last. Sheriff Jack Lawson investigates, with JJ is her role as coroner and friend, helping.
A enjoyable, gripping mystery with a great cast of characters. And a good ending.

It is not just JJ Graves' past that has come back to haunt her. Six years ago Jack's SWAT team were on assignment. It seems that there is someone out to kill them one by one. Now there are only a couple left. Is Jack next? The FBI are on the case.
A really enjoyable well-written thriller

3.5 stars

I really liked it!
The only reason I did not rate it 4 stars was the abrupt ending...
hope there's more of Jack&Jaye in the second book!
