Madame Du Hausset (1713–1801)

Nicole Colleson du Hausset was born in Vitry-le-François in northeastern France. She married into the aristocracy but was left a poor widow on the death of her husband.
An acquaintance of Madame de Pompadour, she became the latter's "femme de chambre" (lady's maid) shortly after Madame de Pompadour became the mistress of King Louis XV. Although her official role was on the level of a servant, Madame du Hausset was treated as a friend and confidante by Madame de Pompadour and was privy to much of the inner workings at court.

Madame du Hausset kept notes, and is known to history for her famous Mémoires describing her time at court, first published in 1824. They are a valuable resource on the private lives of Madame de Pompadour and the king.
