This is the first I've read in the science history from The Kitchen Pantry Scientist series: Physics for Kids, Chemistry for Kids, Biology for Kids, Math for Kids, and Ecology for Kids., and I'm glad that there are to be more in series. Each known woman from a wide assortment of time and place gets a full-page story and full-page portrait as it presents the biography along with why her research, findings and inventions are still important. And then there is the paragraph that invites the reader to "Try this at home."
The instructions are colorfully and delightfully illustrated by Kelly Anne Dalton.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age, great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your public library!
I requested and received a temporary electronic copy on Adobe Digital Editions from Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry, Quarry Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
While the out-of-state grands stayed here over the end of year holidays, our 10 y/o girl made off with my laptop to absorb this one!

My twelve year old is unhappy with the ebook and is pestering me to hurry up and get the print version so she can get involved with the activities and not just read about the various scientists and their work (but she did seem to enjoy that part anyway). I don't think that without 2020 she would never become so involved! Good work!

The Kitchen Pantry Scientist: Chemistry for Kids features 25 labs. Each lab consists of a short biography of a chemist, relates the background of their work, explains the significance of the concept or invention, and concludes with step-by-step instructions and photos for an experiment. I like the diversity of chemists presented in the book. Some are from ancient times; some are modern. Some are well-known; some are more obscure.

I am using Chemistry for Kids to supplement our homeschool science curriculum. The kiddos like learning the stories of the scientists and trying out the experiments. I like that the book helps me cultivate a love of science and learning in my children. We have not had a chance to try out all the science labs, but my kids especially loved lab 3 about evaporation.

Now, about the labs. Even with the instructions and example photos, we sometimes still had questions about how to perform the experiment. Sometimes our result did not match the example photos. Despite that, I like Chemistry for Kids: Homemade Science Experiments and Activities Inspired by Awesome Chemists, Past and Present and I will use it year after year in our homeschool lessons. Though I am using this book with a kindergartener and a third grader, I would say the book is ideal for third grade and up.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this product via the Amazon Vine program. All opinions in this review are my own.

This chemistry book for kids includes a variety of science experiments that can easily be completed at home. The step-by-step instructions clearly describe how to complete each experiment. A materials list, safety tips, and enrichment activities accompany each experiment. The chemistry behind each experiment is explained.

Each experimental design is preceded by a two page introduction about a scientist associated with the experiment, with a short biography and a colorful drawing of the person. Women and men are represented in these biographies. Colorful photos of boys and girls doing the experiments add interest and attractiveness to the book. A list of materials and a glossary can be found at the end of the book.

This book will be useful for home-schoolers, parents, classroom teachers, and librarians who seek a collection of experiments for kids to complete, either independently or with some adult supervision and assistance.
