This is an outstanding adventure book, partly tied to real history.
It is written mostly for middle school kids and the main character is a middle school age girl whose father is in the Vietnam war. The girl stumbles on some secrets, and the secret plus the war years and protests form the background for the story. The situation set up by these events cause many emotions and deep thought by the girl about broad issues such as, why people often have different opinions on a topic, and wondering why some people ignore real pressing public issues while others rise up and try to address them. The book and its situations it also brings up typical emotions teens have about their parents and some family stress as seen through the young adults.

The important part that sets this author apart from many, is how he portrays the girls rational adult and caring handling of the secret she discovers. The secret accelerates the girl's maturity and fairness to others.

The author has created an exciting story with very positive messages from the characters within it. This makes for exciting enjoyable reading by anyone.… (mehr)
