1628 A History of the Czechs, by A. H. Hermann (read 19 Apr 1981) This is not written by a professional historian, but it is pretty interesting. He puts the crucial years for the Czechs as 1418--the year after John Hus' burning; 1618--the start of the 30 Years War; 1918--the year Czechoslovakia became independent again; 1938--Munich; 1948--the year the Communists took over completely; and 1968--the year Russia occupied the country. "8" years are crucial. It is a sad history, and depressing.
