nonfiction/indigenous history and ongoing damage of current social policy- author's parents are from indigenous communities in El Salvador and Zapotec (Oaxaca area).
I muddled through about 80 pages of this but unfortunately wasn't getting much out of it. There is a lot more history than I was expecting (which, fair, I could stand to learn a lot more about the ongoing and historical destruction of indigenous people and culture by the practices of colonization, including Western systems of thought) so I thought I would try to at least learn more about that, but my brain wasn't retaining much and I wasn't finding a lot of practical, realistic ways to start improving things (not that I could do personally, at least). So this wasn't terribly helpful for me (like most PhD dissertations-turned-books).… (mehr)
