A long time ago, Old Bear was packed away in a cardboard box and taken to the attic. Now the day of his rescue has come. But how to find a way up to the attic door? Bramwell Brown, Little Bear, Duck and Rabbit try everything, from jumping on a bed to climbing a not-so-steady tower of blocks, to no avail. Then Duck stumbles upon an idea, and up Little Bear and Rabbit fly in their toy plane.

Years and years ago Old Bear, with his scruffy fur and worn-out paws, had been packed away in a box in the attic. And there he stayed until one day when Bramwell Brown misses him.

A kind friend gave this book to my son when he was very small. I read it aloud to both children many many times. Some years later the book was sent to the Goodwill by my well-meaning, tidy spouse who thought the children had outgrown it. When I discovered it missing and learned what had happened I cried. It felt like I'd lost a friend.

That moment marks the conscious awareness of my love affair with illustrated children's books. Since then I've collected a small library of favorites but have yet to replace Little Bear Lost.

I'm going to go out on a limb and give it the full five stars. The story is sweet and well-told, but the illustrations--oh, those illustrations!--they're absolutely gorgeous. A note at the end says it might take her a year to produce a book, because of the quality of the illustrations, and I believe it. Stun-ning, and absolutely apt for this charmer of a tale.

(Note: 5 stars = amazing, wonderful, 4 = very good book, 3 = decent read, 2 = disappointing, 1 = awful, just awful. I'm fairly good at picking for myself so end up with a lot of 4s). I feel a lot of readers automatically render any book they enjoy 5, but I grade on a curve!

I enjoyed reading Ruby and the Naughty Cats. I mostly enjoyed the rhyming pattern to the story. Every page rhymed which made it fun to read. For example, the book begins with “Ruby, Blanket and Blue were having a race. It’s fun going fast with the wind in my face.” The rhyming patterns help the story feel exciting and created the urge for me to make predictions. For example, page 11 says “they’re standing on the lovely cake”. After reading the first 10 pages of the story I was able to make a prediction and guess the next line, which is “that Blanket took so long to make”. I found myself attempting to make predictions for the duration of the story. There were some I guessed right and a lot I guessed wrong, but it made reading the story extremely fun.
I also enjoyed the books illustrations and their ability to bring the story to life. The illustrator was able to make the characters look three dimensional by choosing solid and subtle colored backgrounds with bright colored characters. For example, on page 7 the background is a very light blue that nearly looks white, while the characters are created with bright blue, red, and yellow. The bright colors of the characters draw the reader’s eye into the beautiful illustrations.
The central message of the book is that everyone deserves to be a friend and nobody enjoys being excluded. The cats were naughty and constantly caused havoc, but they just wanted to be included. When they were allowed to play with Ruby and her friends they also followed the rules.

I enjoyed reading "Ruby, Blue, and Blanket". The story is about a group of stuffed animal friends who decide to play dress up. The best costume will win a prize, but Ruby cant decide what to be. The language in the story is simple, clear, and easy to follow. The illustrations are simple and very realistic. The characters are imaginative and playful. Any child would enjoy reading this story or being read to. The main idea of the story is centered around being what you dream to be. The story can help children identify with the concept of "being yourself". Since Ruby couldn't decide what costume to wear, she decided to put them all together to create the look that she wanted. She dared to be different, and did what made her happy.

A very good story on many levels. Immensely enjoyed by my son, and a good follow-up to the original [b:Old Bear|1610490|Old Bear|Jane Hissey|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1185844984s/1610490.jpg|1604103] which also was a big hit. He poured over the cute illustrations.

I kinda would have thought this was a much older book. I mean, 1986? Was it that long ago??
But, the story is in the old vein. It's a new classic, of sorts. Nothing striking maybe, but a nice story of friendship, friends who are ready to do anything in their power to help out one of theirs. My son, just 4, was quite touched by the story, but also the illustrations for which he often asked for extra time to admire them before I would turn the page. The pictures are super realistic. Sweet story!
It's great to see that there's a whole series out there about Old Bear and Friends.

This book had very realistic drawings of stuffed animals. This a cute, friendly book about stuffed animals wanting to paint pictures and have theirs hung in the big frame. The attitude and thinking of the stuffed animals were much of like that as a child. The animals didn't want to work together to make one big picture, they wanted to all make their own. The use of patterns and some shapes is good for children who are learning about them. I really enjoyed this book and would read it to any child.

A group of toys go on a mission to rescue an old teddy bear from the attic. The beautiful art in this book will capture children's imaginations very well, as the animals are clearly depicted as being toys come alive. This is a short, heartwarming story about helping out a friend, and how friendship eases loneliness.

This book is such a fun, wonderful book! It is the story of little bear looking everywhere to find his trousers around the house. He encounters many of his stuffed animal friends who all tell him that they have seen his pants at one point, but passed them along to someone else. This leads little bear on a big adventure looking high and low to find where his trousers could be next. When he finds them, all of his friends are there to share in eating a special "trouser day" cake that was iced by none other than icing from little bears trousers. The iillustrations in this book are beautiful and so fun to look at. In a classroom setting this book can be used paired with a fun scavenger hunt activity in the classroom, or spark a discussion among students about respecting each other's things and not taking what is not yours.

This story is one of my favorite children's books. It's a sweet and funny story about a group of stuffed animal friends who embark on a game of hide and seek around the house. When they can't find little bear, they search everywhere only to find him in a place that was right under their noses. The illustrations are wonderful and the book is very well written. It can be used in the classroom setting to teach about friendship or before playing a game of hide and seek.

Little Bear's Trousers by Jane HIssey is another wonderful book by this author. Little Bear awakes and immediately has a problem, his trousers are missing! And I love that she chose to use the word trousers and not pants. It seems more dignified for a stuffed animal to wear trousers than pants. I don't know, but I just like her word choice her. This tale is somewhat formulaic in that Little Bear seeks advice from Old Bear. Old Bear tells him where he saw the trousers last and that begins Little Bear's hunt...stuffed animal after stuffed animal, he looks for his trousers. The unique part of the story is that each animal who had possessed the trousers were using them for different purposes. I liked the creativity Hissey employed as each animal used the trousers. This book also has great detailed illustrations that bring the words to life. It could almost be read without the words! Of course this children's story ends on a happy note. Another great book by Jane Hissey.

Old Bear by Jane Hissey is what I may call a new book, 1986, but one that feels like a classic. The story is about four stuffed animals that are trying to rescue Old Bear from the attic. The personification is very believable as the four problem solve and work through different ways to get to Old Bear in the attic. The dialogue is simple, but does send some subtle messages to children regarding what is right and wrong. What attracted me to this book was the cover and the warm, yet soft toned pictures continue to engage the reader throughout the story.

Beautiful illustrations - probably more memorable than the story. Not that the story is that bad - Little Bear wakes up one morning to find his pants or "trousers" are missing. The story follows Little Bear's search for his trousers throughout the house as they are handed off from one stuffed animal to another - each one using them for a unique purpose. My three year old likes it.
