Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! If I rated my expectation before reading this book, I would have given 3 stars but the weaving of history into an enjoyable tale steals a couple of more stars from the sky. I’m sure others with no interest in this place and time will not rate so high. The story is based on an actual Indian uprising occurring in the early Spanish mission system. Five Franciscan priests are murdered and one is turned into a slave. I expect the book will appeal to fans of historical fiction pertaining to early Native Americans and Florida. USA Today has the following article about how sainthood is being asked for the priests.
