Opening Sentence: "...Kathryn was out of time..."

Phew! I was exhausted just reading this. A group of very busy women from Bronxville are preparing to go to their bookgroup. Only one lady has actually read it - the others are too busy. Each woman is introduced - and the reader is told why they are so busy, and why this one doesn't like that one. Then they have the meeting - which wasn't successful because only one person had read the book. then they all go off and the reader is taken back to each woman and told of the aftermath.

I am guessing this is suppose to be a satire about the type of woman who live in "High Society" but frankly I was bored by the whole thing. I didn't care about any of them - to be fair the author didn't really help me get to know any of them. Maybe that was the point - there is no sunbsance to any of the women who leave this life.

I only read it because, ironically, it is to be discussed at an upcoming bookgroup discussion. Even sadder, I am leading the discussion. Still some people like this book - so I am guessing some of the group members will too :)… (mehr)
