Absolutely fantastic, beautiful, wonderful. The story, the illustrations, the education, the history. We loved it all! I've been trying to read this book with my children for 12 years now!!! We start and then life gets busy and we don't finish. I've read it very slowly over the last year with my three youngest and we finished today. It was a beautiful journey and they learned so much! A treasure for our library, for sure!

This is an illustrated history of the Santa Fe Trail and a significant cottonwood tree. A good friend loaned it me after telling it had been his all time favorite book as a young reader.

With beautiful illustrations and rich details, Holling captures the beauty and power of nature, while also teaching important lessons about geography, ecology, and the interconnectedness of our world. This book has received numerous accolades, including the Caldecott Honor and the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award.… (mehr)
