The story is now getting into one of my favorite arcs (I’m up to date with the anime, but not the manga yet), and so I really enjoyed this volume.½

Maybe it’s just been a while since I’ve read manga, but this was SO heavy in exposition that it really disengaged me. One Punch Man pulled off the concept of unlikely overpowered hero better, imo. At the same time, Deku is a cutie, and I appreciate the repeated gag about how All Might is literally “drawn different”

Disclaimer that I haven’t watched the anime, still planning on doing that.

I like that Horikoshi crafts redemption arcs that don’t center forgivenesss, but atonement. It isn't one panel “I’m sorry,” the next “I forgive you,” followed by “that's done moving on next arc everyone’s fine.” The growth is slow, the forgiveness earned, and it's integral to the main narrative. Makes the payoffs (Bakugou, Chaps 285 & 322 holy shit) immensely rewarding.

Still a boy's club shounen (can Mineta fuck off)(can Momo’s suit not look like that), but still a series I want to follow to the end.

A fun and well-paced follow up to Vol.1! I enjoyed the action in this one a lot, and the setting of their training/battle was such a great location for what was happening. Also, I really like that everyone in the class is getting their moment to shine and have their character explored. Seeing all their powers in action is cool; I've never liked when the side characters get super shoved off to side to make way for the "main" heroes.
Honestly, the main thing that I didn't like about this is the weird comments the author makes on the characters profile pages separating chapters. He calls himself a "perv" and implies pervy characters are fun (??), which is shown pretty clearly in the multiple comments characters make about wanting to grope some boobs. I get that these are hormonal high school kids, but the fact that the author calls himself a perv and then writes like that just makes the situation a bit weird. Fingers crossed for more superhero action and less pervy comments in future volumes. 🤞🤞

Like the last volume, I'm really enjoying the sports festival setting and seeing everyone from Class A & B interact with each other; I seriously hope some of the Class B students get switched over to the hero class as this point because they're waaaaay more interesting than some other students. I really like Tokoyami and Hatsume at the moment and would love to see more of them as well! But anyway, a solid volume .

Although there were a few muddled moments of dialogue, this continues to be a really enjoyable series to read! I thought the battle at the beginning dragged on a tad too long, but loved the switch up to the field competition- I honestly don’t care for events like this in real life (including the Olympics, sorry!

A fun start to a series that I'm really interested in reading further, mostly because people keep recommending it to me. I enjoy the overall concept (very X-Men!) and adore superhero stories where the powers are so highly varied. That paired with a school setting is right up my alley (hello, Sky High) and I'm already having fun seeing Midoriya interact with all his classmates as he tries to learn about his power. There's nothing that leaps right out at me and makes this first volume stand out, but like I said, I'm going to keep reading to see how everything develops!

- The journey of 1,000 miles takes one step. You need to have initiative to reach your dream.
- You have to train HARD for your dreams! There will be hardships and they'll NEVER let up, but you will OVERCOME them! Go that extra mile! So long as there's belief (and endorsement) you can achieve anything!
- You don't need to be an uber-aggressive hard ass to accomplish this lol. The series Naruto seems so dark compared to this. I really appreciate how nerdy and innocent Izuku Midoriya is. At first, I hated it, but after seeing how much shit he went through to get where he was, I'm proud of that goober.

My only issue is that this series ONLY focuses on physical limits of his dream, and how determination, sacrifice, goals, and endurance affects it. There is a pantheon of other emotions, beliefs, or even career goals that don't need physicality. If you're dream is to be a successful business owner, the president, a movie star, or some other unrealistic ambition, then there are different approaches to reach them. This is a manga series for sports fans and young, athletic boys.

The students of UA High’s Hero 1-A class are taking their provisional hero license exam and the test turns out to be more than they expected.

I’m still loving this manga series.½

I saw My Hero Academic pop up into my feed years ago and I was honestly curious about it. I heard a lot of people talk it up, but I never was able to find it in my book travel adventures. Then, lucky my discovered NetGalley (for the second time) and located this little gem! I was so pumped to finally be able to pick this up since I love manga and superheroes.

In this somewhat dystopian world, almost all of the population have super powers. These powers, known as "quirks" can be managed and controlled and then used to save the universe! There's heroes and villains everywhere, and they are constantly battling. At four years old, kids begin to show their powers and they learn to master them. There are hero academies to hone your skills, and our lead really wants powers and really wants to help people. Lucky him, a big time superhero finds him and wants to take him under his wing...

This book is serious fun. The pictures are amazing, the plot is interesting and the characters are cool to follow. There's non-stop action and fun around every corner and I found myself just binging the whole thing (I did not intend to, but it just kinda happened). I'd like to pick up the rest of this series if I can ever find them, because I enjoy Kohei Horikoshi's story telling abilities (and the illustrations are just super cool). I can tell the world in this manga is only going to get cooler, since this is just the first volume. I hope I get to see the world building and character development flourish in the future!

If you love X-Men, the Avengers and DC, you'll love these books. It's action packed and loads of fun. I honestly enjoyed the way I was able to sink into this book and just disappear from reality for a while. It helps that the book was easy to follow and easy to read. The worst part is I'm not used to the names used in this book and I don't know how to pronounce them, which is hardly a fault of the book. On top of that, I can only assume this series is going to get better. The first volume is like the pilot episode of a television show. We get an introduction to the world and the characters, and eventually we get released into the magic of the universe.

Four out of five stars!

Thank you to NetGalley and VIZ Media for providing me a copy of this long awaited manga!

Things are looking grim for UA High, what with All Might not being so all-mighty anymore and then potential mole in their midst. Still, the teachers somehow convince parents to let their students start staying in the newly-build dorms. And the kids love it, decorating their rooms and hanging out even more as friends.
Not much plot pushing in this one, but I adore the dorm room competition storyline.½

The UA first years take their semester finals and then head off to summer camp. Also, Deku has a run-in at the mall with my boyfriend Tomura Shigaraki.

I love this manga. That is all.

A fantastic compendium of character and villain profiles from the show- you don't really learn anything new (except maybe trivia facts like birthdays and favorite foods) but this is a handy reference tool for artists needing dynamic poses and powerful expressions. I see this more as an art book with trivia sprinkled in. Great for any kind of fan but - fair warning, if you don't read the manga or haven't seen enough of the anime, it contains spoilers so be sure you're alright with that.

Awesome little manga I got as promo-material on the release of the movie in theaters. Has a short bonus stories that compliment the movie as well as some creator interviews, concept art, sketches, and profiles of the characters.

In a world where most of humanity is gifted with special powers called "Quirks", Izuku Midoriya, a young boy with no Quirk at all, dreams of becoming like the world's most famous hero, All Might. One day, All Might himself approaches Izuku and gives him the opportunity to become the hero he always envisioned, by sharing with the boy the powers of his own Quirk, "One for All", and enrolling him into the Yūei High School for heroes in training. Once enrolled, we follow Midoriya’s journey in becoming the world's greatest hero, making this a story you will not soon forget.

BNHA's unique blend of American and Japanese tropes and styles made this a far more refreshing and interesting read. From the major character development, engaging content and overall storyline, it became more than apparent as I read along why readers are so drawn to this manga series.

I will strongly advise picking this volume up as it is a great introductory piece to the manga and anime series. It will allow you as the reader to know the origins of Midoriya, his lack of powers, why he wants to become the next All Might and what led him to be the strong, inspiring superhero he has always dreamt of becoming.
