Robert E. Horn

Interesting artefact of the Hypercard era with Clipart aesthetic.

I think it's really interesting because Horn was clearly trying to use his own techniques in this book, but it's so hard to read and follow (and we can't excuse the era because Tufte's Envisioning Information came out almost the same time).

He has some interesting ideas, but the structure and concept (ironically) make it so that the ideas never get developed out very far.

Plus sides: Some of his ideas around simplifying information are nice, and some of the ideas about recommendation engines are used.

Down sides: Drawing a bunch of lines and arrows in a chaotic way across every single page makes it hard to read and process. I get the instinct to 'think differently', but the goal is to actually make text easier to process, this is completely antithetical to it. If the goal is to go in-depth into any thought, this method won't let you do so.… (mehr)
