Kurzbiographie
When Cincinnati resident, Ron Houston, first entertained the notion of writing he was a mixologist in one of the city’s most notable nightclubs. ‘There I was standing behind the bar. At a point when every customer had been served, I developed an observing eye. I saw what was really going on in the club and started to really hear the conversations. I thought, somebody ought to write a book about this stuff. After a few moments more a light came on in my head and I then realized, ‘Why don’t I write it?’ (oh, did I mention I’m kinda slow?). I studied writing technique for three years then produced my first collection of short stories, Tales From the Satellite. In one month it became a local bestseller.’

Educated in Organic Chemistry and working full time as a lab technician, this licensed certified mixologist, was now an author and owner of GorillaWorks Publishing. Next he wrote the shock novel, The Devastation of Mr. Drake, and gain strong book club support.

‘I really appreciate all the support I’ve gotten from my readers,’ says the author of these strange stories, Ron Houston. ‘I realize my writing is not for everyone, but I’m pleasantly surprised at the number of fans I’ve reached. When I give my books to one of my proudest fans, my mom, I make sure it’s bound in plastic never to be read. I don’t want her to need therapy over the thoughts that come out of her baby boy’s warped mind.’

As an experienced radio talk show guest, Ron Houston has been heard frequently on 1230 WDBZ the Buzz of Cincinnati, 1480 WCIN and 1230 KCOH in Houston, Texas. He’s an articulate, humorous media guest and is known locally as, ‘The Mixologist.’

I was given a gift today, a short story (this one) and a novel that I can't wait to touch. But first: A Sinister Grin.

This is an adorable, halloween themed story of a mean old man, a widow and her dog. It's written in a style similar to a Grimm Fairy Tale but very unique. I enjoyed the rhyme, the off-rhythm and of course, the actual story.

The old man is sour, yet excited to bring terror to unsuspecting children for Halloween. He doesn't care who he frightens or where he gathers his tools- enter the window across the way. The story is descriptive and easy to imagine, allowing readers, both young and old to glean. You hear from the old man, the old woman - who's another victim of the man's vile scheme - and even the dog!

This chilling new novel explores the aspects of women who expose themselves as prey to a hidden predator. It dwells deep in the mind of a madman who uses the Satellite Lounge as his hunting ground. This story will disturb the reader as it answers the question, What if Mr. Right is all wrong? The Devastation of Mr. Drake, pushes the envelope as it deals with real issues that plague women such as abandonment, single-parenthood, domestic violence, safe sex, loneliness and hidden agendas in order to possess men.

This novel is not for the faint of heart. Mr. Houston's approach to character development makes the women of this story sizzle with emotion. "I used collective social issues that women face as characters," says author Ron Houston. "Such as, one woman embodies child-hood abandonment, while another is the physical representation of the, 'I can change a man' attitude, many women believe. Many women will see someone they know in these characters, if indeed not themselves."

But the single most terrifying factor of this novel is Russell Drake, the misogynistic mixologist of the Satellite Lounge. He's what every woman thinks they want; he's good-looking and has the appearance of wealth. ..but he is pure evil. He's a monster, who knows the game of love. He's a predator who uses this knowledge to destroy women.

"Tales from The Satellite," is a bizarre collection of short fiction stories that focuses on the staff and patrons of a legendary Cincinnati nightclub known as The Satellite Lounge. It’s an intoxicating blend of laughter, tears and thrills. All from the mixologist's point of view.

As a paperback, "Tales from The Satellite" became a local bestseller in it's first month of release. It is fresh, bizarre and at times, unsettling. The characters introduced in this book range from charming to evil, sympathetic to downright pitiful. The emotions will run full scale by the books conclusion. However, it's Mr. Houston's descriptive style and strong sense of setting that brings the Satellite Lounge alive. At one moment he plots you right in the middle of a lively bar stool conversation. Next, you find yourself behind the bar with a mixologist trying to discern the motive of a patron.
