This book had its origins in a textbook published in 1947 by Malcolm Miller of Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine. This particular work however, much revised and expanded over its predecessor, was published by Cornell veterinary anatomy professors Howard E. Evans and Alexander deLahunta in 1971. Over the decades, it has undergone much revision, and its 7th edition was published in 2009. Its organization combines the best features of an "organ system" approach and a "regional approach". Following an introductory chapter (on terminology, directional terms, and dissection technique), it details skeletal and muscular systems of the limbs and trunk, then organs, blood vessels, and nerves of anterior body, then the abdomen and pelvic limb, then anatomy of the head, and finally, of the central nervous system. The most recent edition available (2009) has much of the same content as earlier editions, but is attractively illustrated with color diagrams.
