A game of cat and mouse except the mouse is obsessed with the cat and wants to be stomped on.

Not for me. I don’t care for any of these characters. The appeal’s supposed to be marveling at how disillusioned Aoi is and Kiruru's sexiness. The manga never lets you forget it either with its childishly-perverted gaze. But nothing in this story is giving what it’s—y’know.

It still will be slapstick, lighthearted fun for most though.

I was rolling on the floor laughing when i started this manga! A Real must read even if you're not really a manga fan.

Well now, wasn't this a fun but of PG-rated shojo manga! Cute, amusing, and deliciously twisted, it's the story of an arrogant bully who is horribly mangled and left for dead after a bus crash, only to have his face reconstructed in the image of his high-school crush (whose photo he keeps in his wallet).

It's a rather preposterous scenario, but the book quickly owns up to the fact, which makes the whole thing a bit more clever than I expected. Although the usual manga exaggerated facial expressions and dialogue are here, the story is actually told very well through the characters.

You really come to emphasize with Rando, finally coming so close to the girl he loves, but being unable to express his love . . . outside of an excruciatingly teasing big sister/best friend sort of way. Rina slowly changes the young man, redeeming the jock/jerk he used to be, while Dr. Manabe keeps trying to push him into a complete sex change.

Definitely a fun story, although I'm not sure there's enough depth to make me want to read the other 5 instalments.

The most hilarious premise ever. Honestly.

A boy--kind of a rough, bully guy--is on the school bus when it crashes. Everyone else gets out all right... he gets his face burned off and everyone thinks he's dead. He's in a coma for nearly a year/a year.

When he wakes up, his limbs are all skinny and weak from lack of exercise. Then he sees himself in the mirror and freaks out. The crazy doctor--who's a fascinating character all himself, and is a regular throughout the series--tells him that he got his face burned off. So the doctor looked in his pockets for a picture of him, and finds a picture of a beautiful girl... the boy's crush, because why would he have a picture of himself, amirite?

Now the boy looks like the girl he has a crush on--Pretty Face. Events unfold, he ends up living at the girl's house as the replacement for her twin sister, and they precede to go on crazy adventures where he has to try hard not to reveal the fact that he's a boy.

Funny, cute series. Worth the read.

This volume isn't any more plausible than the first one, but it is interesting that this boy pretending to be a girl has to save up for surgery. Surgery to get his old, male face back. But there's a good trans metaphor in there.

Incredibly implausible premise. Dude gets in an accident, everyone thinks he's dead, but a surgeon has reconstructed his face based on a pic of a girl he likes. So now he looks like her, apart from still being a dude. And it turns out she has a twin sister who ran away two years ago. So now he gets to be her.See? Told you it was implausible.Wacky hijinks ensue. Mostly involving half-naked or fully naked girls. (Srsly, girls don't act like that when there aren't boys around. Just so you know.)

It's hard to describe Pretty Face. Masashi Rando was once a typical shonen (boys) manga hero. But the brash karate club leader suffered horrific burns in a bus crash and fell into a coma. He wakes a year later with everyone thinking he died, including his family. And the doctor who reconstructed his face worked from the photo in his pocket - a photo of his crush Rina.

When he stumbles into Rina, he's shocked to find she isn't surprised by her doppelganger. Her twin sister Yuna ran away two years ago to become a beautician and she thinks Rando is Yuna returned. Rando does not particularly like his new role, but if pretending to be Yuna makes Rina happy, he will do it. Now he just has to find the real Yuna so he can regain his identity.

There are the expected hijinks: Rando must keep his male identity secret despite the fact he's walking around in a miniskirt. But his failure to act like a nice, sweet girl creates the best comic moments. He understands the power of cuteness but just cannot resist using his feet and fists on jerks. There's also a great deal of fanservice and ecchi moments some readers might be uncomfortable with. I am just curious as to why the girls always manage to flash their panties when they kick someone but Rando manages to keep the family jewels covered despite the fact he beats people up multiple times a chapter. (Okay, he doesn't always manage, but he does more often than not.)

One main problem with the manga is the real Yuna. She leaves without a word and never writes or visits. But all evidence in the story shows that she cares deeply for her twin as well as the rest of the family. It doesn't really add up. However, it's that sisterly relationship that allows PRETTY FACE to work. Rando truly cares for Rina, and in his disguise he does his best to be a good older sister. He doesn't take advantage of the fact they live together. (He just beats anyone who looks at Rina the wrong way.)

I like gender bending comedy. I think PRETTY FACE does it well, with a good blend of violence and sweetness. I do not think people new to manga should start with this title. There are less absurd titles that might be a better place to start. (For girls, the reigning gender bender comedy is probably Hana Kimi.) For those who don't mind a crazy plot and a little fan service, PRETTY FACE is a pretty good title to relax with.
