Emperor Chandragupta is a well written historical novel on the life of the first Mauryan Emperor who, from humble beginnings, had conquered and ruled a vast empire - one of the largest ones recorded in Indian history. The author has built a somewhat mythical portrait of Chandragupta based on the highly conflicting and unreliable historical sources that are available at present and her own imagination. I had a couple of issues with this book; firstly, there were several superfluous / repetitive statements and descriptions which could have been avoided to make the story a lot crisper, and secondly, the timelines of various events could have been clearly marked to make the reader more involved.
This one is a quality effort from a promising author whom I expect to produce better novels in the future.… (mehr)
