Hubby & I don't have a dog, but enjoy country walks in our home county of Bucks...and this book certainly offers inspiring color photos on gloss paper of nice places to go.
I don't think we're excessively stupid...and while I appreciate places change, this book IS only 3 years old...yet I have to say we've done 2 walks and got totally lost. Ms Kendall offers extremely clear and detailed info at times ("Don't be put off by the 'No Dogs' sign at these gates') but then leaves the walker utterly befuddled elsewhere.
As we yomped home over a rugby field and adjoining area full of bramble (glad we had no dog!) and managed to escape via a wire fence that someone had trampled through, I would say: use this book for inspiration, by all means. Use it to take you to the starting point of your walk...and then leave it in the car and use your own sense of direction to follow the footpaths and bridleways you encounter.
You can't do any worse than you would if you religiously followed instructions herein!… (mehr)
