A crime thriller set in the world of the dead - that was enough to hook me, in addition to the rave reviews on goodreads. The story starts off well, with the author creating an alternate universe on the other side of death, populated by a mix of eccentric, interesting characters. There are mysteries enough to hold the reader's attention, and a lot of references that are sure to amuse readers familiar with Columbus, Ohio, and the American music scene.
Sadly for me though, quite a few mysteries were left unsolved - hinting at more novels to come in the series, and the references to locales and the music went way over my head, owing to my foreignness.
I would not have picked it up had there been any indication that it may be the first in a series with no clue as to how many more are yet to come. So, though I liked the parallel universe of death a lot, I am disappointed with the incompleteness of this novel.… (mehr)
