The particular charm of this book is the numerous period pictures of the earliest days of Russian aviation in general, never mind military aviation, plus the efforts the authors went to in unearthing the actual orders dealing with organizing and marking military & naval aviation units.

This is a very well-illustrated book, with hundreds of photographs and dozens of color profiles. Air operations are described in detail. The translation is a bit rough, but makes the book accessible to English speakers. All factions are covered, including the Don Cossacks, EXCEPT for Ukrainian, Georgian, Armenian, and Azeri units.
