Vennie Kocsis

I find memoirs difficult to review, and this one especially so. I'm just going to put my thoughts out there, but know I'm critiquing the book and not the author.

I found this book difficult to read, not because of the expected dark content, but because of the spelling and grammatical errors, as well as awkward sentence structure. A good editor would make a world of difference in the reading experience.

While Kocsis provides a lot of detail on the abuse she suffered, primarily sexual, there's nothing here on the actual cult. What and when did they worship? How did they recruit? What did they believe? I still don't know because none of this is shared. Her life with these people, aside from the abuse, is vague at best.

The ending is abrupt, sort of like letting a bird out of a cage. One minute she's in the cult. The next minute she's not. End of book.

I truly feel for this woman. What she went through at the hands of her own mother, along with this cult, is difficult for most of us to comprehend. This book, though, isn't one I can recommend on the topic.… (mehr)
