Rezensionen

If you’re a programmer and you either haven’t taken a course in calculus/linear algebra or haven’t kept your college maths somewhat fresh, you will most likely get nothing out of this book. The best chapter is the first, and the bar for “best” is relatively low here.

I hate to say this, as Jeremy Kun has written a large number of free and accessible mathematical refreshers (and has been doing so for years) many of which I have found personally useful. However, writing a introductory text is much different than amassing a large collection of fairly specific blog posts and this, I believe, is shown throughout this book.

Also a shame that the book is so expensive (mostly the fact that you're paying $50 for an e-book and physical copy).

Hoping to add more details to this review, on a per-chapter basis, or just giving some specifics to my issues with it.

For those looking for (what I believe to be) high quality comprehensive introductory math texts (not an easy feat):
- Mathematics for Computer Graphics - John A. Vince (ISBN 9781849960229)
- Calculus: Early Transcendentals - James Stewart (ISBN 0534393217)
- Linear Algebra and its Applications - David Lay (ISBN 0321287134)
- Introduction to Graph Theory - Richard Trudeau (ISBN 0486678709)

Two others that Kun also makes mention of in his book
- Calculus - Michael Spivak (ISBN 0914098896)
- Linear Algebra Done Right - Sheldon Axler (ISBN 0387982582)
