One thing that was glaring if you read the first book in the series: is this the same Olivia??? It's three months later, and the spoiled, immature princess who was half a villain in the first book is suddenly this brazen, strong, self-sufficient adult? I mean I liked this version a lot better, but it felt like I was reading about a totally different character. Also, why in the world is she so sure Brody loves her??? They've boned a few times, but he seems to go out of his way to make it clear he isn't into her (we are privvy to his inner monologue, but she is not).

While this book is much more well-written then the last, I am feeling increasingly uncomfortable about how race is treated in these books: most of the villains are Native American or Mexican, and the few non-villain POCs are mammy types and super one-dimensional. Why don't Eva's sons get books??? And can we talk about Elena? She was a hostage to her abusive brother for years and acted on his orders; I'm not saying she's Good, but to make her out to be a Big Bad... And damn, I was so ready for a hot threesome scene with Brody, Olivia, and Elena but I totally understand that the characters weren't ready for that. Still! Though, I did like the brief piece of narrative about borders, and how they are this artificial, invented, nebulous concept that we've collectively decided to believe in - that was my takeaway from that paragraph, anyways. (2.5 stars)

Might should go on the chubby heroine shelf too, but there are only a few references to her figure, and most of her insecurity is around her plainness. This is pretty hokey and I'm pretty sure Granny used every colloquialism associated with cowboys, but I liked the characters. I'm curious to read the rest - there is a mystery that isn't completely solved at the end - but none of the rest seem to cater to any of my favorite tropes, so it may be a while before I get to them.

Good book, as much adventure story as romance. The Graham family is still mourning the deaths of their parents and the kidnapping of their youngest sibling, five year old Benjy. Olivia has taken charge of caring for the family, becoming extremely bossy and hardheaded. When Texas Ranger Brody Armstrong, who has been investigating the kidnapping, arrives with news for her brother Matt, he's dismayed that Matt is away from home. He doesn't have time to wait for his return, and gives in to Olivia's insistence that he tell her what is happening, expecting her to inform Matt when he returns. Instead, he finds Olivia insisting on accompanying him.

Brody is a loner who doesn't take on anyone as a partner, least of all a feisty, argumentative female. The events of his past have left him with his emotions buried deep behind walls, content to live his life constantly on the move. He's been attracted to Olivia since he met her, but doing anything about it would be a very bad idea. Olivia had a crush on him when they first met, but as months have passed with no progress in finding her brother, she buried that crush under anger at his apparent indifference to her pain.

I loved their immediate clash when she insisted on going along, and he was equally insistent that she wasn't. He thought he hadn't gotten through to her when he left alone, only to find that she had followed him. It turned out to be a good thing she had when she saved him from two attackers, without losing her head or going into hysterics. He is unwillingly impressed by her, and agrees to let her come along for part of the journey, planning to leave her behind at some point. But Olivia is wise to his plans, and offers him several supremely logical and practical benefits to her presence.

I also found it pretty amusing that each of them had the same effect on the other - neither could think straight when in close proximity. Brody especially found himself agreeing to all kinds of things when his mind was distracted by the way his body reacted to her. The chemistry between them was amazing. Olivia was no inexperienced virgin, and had no trouble making it clear to Brody that she wanted him. He tried to do the right thing at first, especially because of his friendship with her oldest brother, but he was no match for her determination. After their first time together, they had a really hard time keeping their hands off each other. I admit that I found it a little disturbing that they would give in to their desires in the middle of times when their safety was most at risk.

It was interesting to see how their relationship developed. Not only did they have their smoking hot attraction, they also had a pretty good respect for each other's abilities. They were also far more alike than either suspected at the beginning, and as they spent time together those similarities drew them closer together. Because Olivia had been hurt by another man, it takes her awhile to trust Brody and what she is beginning to feel for him. For his part, Brody had never experienced love of any kind, and didn't recognize what he felt for her. He was constantly trying to fight it, certain that there was no way to keep her in his life as a Ranger. Once he finally recognized what he felt, it scared him spitless and sent him running, until he realized what he was doing. At that point it was almost too late, as she was in extreme danger. Olivia had recognized her feelings earlier and had the courage to admit them, but was devastated by his lack of response. I loved the vulnerability that Brody showed when he finally opened up to her. The ending was really sweet as Brody finally found what he hadn't even known he was searching for.

The adventure part of the book was great. From the moment that Brody and Olivia set off together, it was one dangerous situation after another. When they were able to stop arguing long enough to work together, things went well. Unfortunately for them, their own individual issues kept putting them in danger. Unused to working with anyone, Brody isn't accustomed to sharing his plans with anyone. Leaving Olivia in the dark causes her to take things into her own hands, usually putting them into more danger. Olivia isn't known for her patience, and she has a tendency to rush in without considering possible consequences. Tracking down Roderigo gets them a little closer to finding Benjy, but puts them in far more danger than they expected. He is bad news, but his mother and sister end up being even worse. The final confrontation was intense, one that kept me riveted until I knew how it was going to work out.

I liked the theme of the importance of family. It is Brody's lack of family that has made him the man that he is, and also pinpoints his vulnerable side. Though he doesn't realize it at first, he is envious of Olivia's closeness with hers. Olivia may have her moments of frustration with hers, but she knows that they are there when she needs them. I loved her brothers' determination to help Brody with her rescue, even as they hold him responsible for her trouble in the first place. Once the shooting was done, I liked their acceptance of him as part of the family. The youngest Graham girl was really sweet, especially at the end. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.

I gave this book two stars because the plot was decent, but I really had a hard time with the characters actions. Eliza had the potential to be a strong heroine (and in some ways she was), but her reactions to the physical aspect of her relationship didn't make sense. I would've killed Grady that first morning. I also found it hard to believe an intelligent woman would give up her virginity without a second thought. I know this is a sexist statement, but in those times a woman's virtue was one of her most valuable assets. Perhaps the author was trying to show that Eliza was strong and independent by taking charge of her sexuality. Considering it was the 1800's, that concept didn't work for me. The steam factor was there, but the crass language made me cringe. There was no emotion either...just two people rutting around like animals. I almost took another star away for the ridiculous ending.

There is great potential here, so I may give the author another try. Perhaps this was an example of early work and writing usually improves over time.

VAUGHN: THE CIRCLE EIGHT by Emma Lang is another exciting Western Historical Romance featuring the Graham Family and set in Texas. Book #3 in "The Circle Eight" series, while it can be read as a stand alone, I would suggest reading the others in the series. Just because it is an awesome series! I have read them out of order and had no difficulties keeping up, although, there are a few spoilers, if you have not read the others in the series. See, "Matthew", "Brody", and "Caleb".

This is the story of Elizabeth Graham, a Graham sibling and Vaughn Montgomery, a con artist with a heart. I am a big fan of The Circle Eight series and VAUGHN was no different. Ms. Lang can surely deliver a grand adventure with a grand romance. The Graham Family is a formidable family, on a mission.

The passion flies off the page, the characters are enduring and intriguing to say the least. The storyline is impression, entertaining and intriguing. I love this series from beginning to hopefully the end. I can't wait to read the rest of the story of the Graham Family, their friends and love that follows them, at The Circle Eight!

If you enjoy Western Romance, exciting characters, entertaining as well as a dramatic storyline than you are in for a treat with VAUGHN. A must read tale of love, secrets, a bit of danger, suspense, with a little mystery along the way. In VAUGHN, we learn we are not all heroes, but love conquers all in the end. Elizabeth and Vaughan are not your everyday love story, or a couple you would normally put together, but they work great together in VAUGHN! *But than, here is a bit of a spoiler, we don't find a naked man on our doorstop everyday either!* Another formidable Graham Family tale! A great read! Received for an honest review from the author and/or publicist.

NICHOLAS: THE CIRCLE EIGHT by Emma Lang is an exciting Western Historical Romance. #5 in "The Circle Eight" series, while it can be read as a stand alone, I would suggest reading the others in the series. One, it is an exciting, interesting and intriguing series. Two the Graham's are an exceptional group of eight siblings trying to find their youngest brother, who was stolen as a child, when their parents where killed and deal with their own life's ups and downs.

See,"Matthew", "Brody", "Caleb", and "Vaughan".

Follow Nicholas Graham, a Circle Eight sibling and Wnnie Watson on their journey of deception, lies, secrets, trust, passion, and the obstacles of love.

Nicholas and Winnie both have secrets, and things they wish to forget but they also struggle with their attraction to each other. Best laid plans often go awry. Fast paced and packed with action, passion and the power of love.

I absolutely love this series! The characters are engaging and believable. The storyline is interesting, exciting, and intriguing. Will the Graham family ever find their beloved sibling, if so will he have suffered far less or more than they had hope, wished and prayed for or far worst than they can imagine as they have struggled with their own lives and come to grips they may never find him alive?

A great story of family, struggles, sacrifice, hope, and secrets. If you enjoy family, Western Romance and a great story than NICHOLAS, is a story for you as well as the other Circle Eight series. I would suggest reading the whole series, but as I said it is not necessary to, in order to read NICHOLAS.

Ms. Lang draws the reader into her stories with her storyline, her enduring characters and her vivid descriptions of the landscapes of old and the people of the West. A must read! Well done, once again, Ms. Lang. Received for an honest review from the author and/or publicist.

Really 4.5 Stars

Lettie isn’t running, but she certainly is hiding. Left abused and broken by her former husband, she tries to push the world away by making herself unappealing and mean. But no amount of pain can warp the person within and, when a beaten stranger appears on the porch of the diner where she works, she can’t help but try to heal the man with wounds so similar to the ones she used to sport. He may smell like rot-gut whisky, and be wearing clothes that have more lice than cloth, but he is a man in need of help. When he throws up all over her shoes, it begins a chain of events that brings her world crashing down around her feet.

Shane Murphy is a mess. Left broken by the death of his wife, he has survived the aftermath of the war in a drunken stupor. He doesn’t quite know how he ends up beaten at the Blue Plate, but he knows that the women there have saved his life. He is grateful to them all, but only one holds his attention, only one holds him when the nightmares leave him curled in a ball out of fear. When he looks beyond the drab clothing and waspish attitude, he sees a caring woman who has been taught to fear men. Can he breach the walls that surround her to try to get close to her heart?

As Shane begins to heal, the pair start to bond on a level they never want or imagine. Shane plans to leave once he has healed fully, can the fledgling relationship develop into something strong enough to make him want to stay? Or will the baggage that makes them cling so desperately to the pain of the past stop them from embracing the one person in the world who will be able to help them weather any storm? It seems that only in their dreams can they truly accept the feelings that blossom between them and allow love to take root.
I love Emma Lang’s writing. Whether it is as this name, or as Beth Williamson, her story telling is flawless. This western tale of romance and healing hit the spot in so many ways and, with its slightly erotic edge, it was more than enough to satisfy the perv in me J This book also delved a little into supernatural territory; it was a nice touch that allowed for a speeding up of a relationship that otherwise could have seemed improbable to develop.

Lettie is a character broken in so many ways. Her first husband was a Mormon who took her as his second wife when she was little more than a child. He caused her immense pain, using her to satisfy his own twisted wants and needs. God, I didn’t like her at the beginning of this tale. Don’t get me wrong, I felt sorry for her, but she was so twisted up in her pain that she was very bitter and waspish. It took Shane’s slow erosion of her walls and bitterness for me to feel anything warm to her. She had felt nothing but pain and humiliation from sex with her husband; it is the major reason why she shy’s away from the feelings that she has for Shane. But once the dreams start happening, she is powerless to stop the feelings that start to bloom (on a side note, the dreams are hot as hell....they were amazing). It’s not until a scene which made me a little warmer that she accepts that she can’t control herself around him (see the scene where she bathes him...wow *fans*). It’s at this point she starts to come out of her shell and I really started to like her. Without all the layers of fear, she is quite a ballsy woman who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to ask for it.

"You are my dark Angel, Lettie. You brought me back from the dead whether or not I deserved it. There isn't anyone in this world who cared about me, or whether I lived or died.......Right now you are the only important person to me"

Shane is not a hard character to like. Yes, he has made some stupid choices, but in hearing his back-story, I could forgive him pretty much anything. He married a woman who wasn’t right for him, and in doing so made himself so unhappy he turned to drink. It was this choice that led to his feelings of guilt over his wife’s death; he blames the fact he was drunk for his inability to help her. When he meets Lettie, he doesn’t want to feel for her. He has done marriage, he has proved that he is a terrible husband and a man; he wants only to be left alone. But once the naughty dreams of him and Lettie together begin, he starts to notice more and more about her. He notices the woman beneath the drab costume and he finds he isn’t as emotionally dead as he first thought. I loved the way he was with her, loved the way he helped her out of her shell and then didn’t let the woman she truly was faze him. He was a fabulously flawed hero... I only hoped that he stuck around!

I loved this book. I loved the romance, I loved the drama, I loved the sauciness and I loved the Wild-West setting. You can read it as a stand-alone but I truly recommend reading the previous two first; you will get to know some of the characters better and that will make the book all the sweeter. Also, the cover is awesome.....look at that cowboy

Full Review on http://scorchingbookreviews.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/release-fay-review-nix-wester...

I discovered Emma Lang through her alter ego Beth Williamson. I was recommended her Historical Cowboys and I loved the lyrical style of her writing. This is a Romantic Western and I loved every second of it. The book is set in the 1800’s so the men are men and the women are housewives. This family have had their lives turned upside down in the most horrific of fashion and now one of their kin is in the hands of some very horrible people. I respected the decision of Olivia to force herself into the investigation; family is the thing you should cherish and protect at all costs. The premise of this whole book worked for me and I found myself lost in the wild-west.

Olivia was a woman who no longer gave a crap about what was right and proper. She wanted to find her brother and was more than willing to risk her reputation to do so. She doesn’t balk at any of his suggestions, really appreciated the fact that he knew best and doesn’t take the risk lightly. Yes, she takes her life into her own hands but she does it with her eyes wide open. I loved her spunky attitude and strength of conviction; she is the type of heroine that grabs me. She wasn’t stupid or naive; she was just a big sister. She makes some decisions that, when she dissects them later, make her shake, cry and vomit but at the time they are necessary. When the sparks become too much, she walks into a sexual relationship fully aware of all the consequences but realising that she needs to grab her happiness where she can. I enjoy intelligence and Olivia is certainly that.

Brody is just hot. He’s a bad ass Ranger who wants to do his job, sleep with prostitutes who expect him to leave and just stay alive. He has a traumatic past, making his career path perfect for him, but Ms Olivia threatens to destabilise his normal completely. He doesn’t want to feel for her, and is actually quite terrified for her safety, but he can’t deny the saucy thoughts that keep clouding his mind. I loved the fact he was willing to go all the way to Mexico to try to rescue the little boy but I loved the way he was with Olivia even more. He didn’t truly start to appreciate her until she proved her worth on the mission, when he realised that she wouldn’t be a burden. I loved that he respected her strength and her presence; that these were the qualities were what made him fall in love with her! I adore a man who isn’t an Alpha-hole.

This was not your average sweet Western. The action was high octane, the bad guys were creepy and the sex was off the charts steamy....these were not a couple that were shy in seeking their pleasure. The Hero was strong enough to respect his woman and the Heroine was strong enough to hold her own; it’s a fantastic trip back to the Wild Wild West....

I love, love, LOVE this series. In this book, Emma Lang (AKA Beth Williamson) has blended the perfect amount of American Frontier plotlines with sexy romance and it kept me hooked from the start. It is a series which should be read in order as the overarching series arc is vital to the sub-plots within the individual tales.

Caleb has decided that serving the state of Texas and searching for his little brother is more important than living with his family. When he goes to “evict” Rory from her forge (because women couldn’t own property at this time so the land had defaulted to ownership of the state of Texas), he doesn’t expect to find someone as feisty, or female, working as a blacksmith. I loved the fact that she amused him rather than shocked him. She wore trousers, did a man’s job and swore like a sailor but he didn’t bat an eyelid as he saw the woman that she felt she had to hide to succeed in her career. He seemed to understand, and even respect, her lifestyle choices. When she got hurt, and had to be taken to the baddies ranch to be treated, he didn’t baby her or treat her as a lesser being. He cajoled and supported her in such a way that she was able to help herself as much as she could and I swooned. J

Writing strong heroines is something that Emma Lang is very good at and Rory is amazing. She is larger than life without becoming a cartoon character. She portrays herself in a way that she feels she needs to, but has had to suffer the consequences because of it. I felt that she didn’t know how to feel like a woman and I adored that Caleb made her feel slightly more feminine. Throughout the tale, she was strong and compassionate when she needed to be and it made me want her to get her happy ever after. I knew her home was gone (stupid laws) and I got so angry that she was forced away from everything because of gender; it made her HEA even sweeter.

The romance was well fleshed out and completely satisfying. As Caleb and Rory transitioned from enemies to lovers, I was willing the story on at every step of the way. I loved the way that Caleb complimented her character without ever belittling her choices and I loved the way she made him softer. They made such a dynamic couple I wanted to keep reading about them. There were no real obstacles to them getting together as the conflict come more from the external storyline. I enjoyed the fact that I could sit and relax into the budding romance, content in the knowledge that these two wouldn’t fall foul of any communication issues. The sex scenes were scorching hot; neither of these two was shy about getting pleasure from the other. They were a fascinating couple to read about in a brilliant storyline....I do adore this series.

Overall this was a compelling story just like I knew it would be. With a dreamy cowboy hero, who just wants to make his family whole again, and a heroine who just wants to do the job she loves inspite of her gender, this was bound to keep me interested! I would highly recommend this book.

Matthew is the fist book in a new series by Author Emma Lang. This book is a historical romance set in the early 1800's. I have read many historical romance books and Matthew is one of the best that I have read. Matthew Graham and his family have lived through the loss of their parents and their young brother Benji. In order to claim the additional land for their ranch, Matthew goes to Huston to sign the papers. In order to claim the extra land Matthew must be married. He states that he is married and his wife's name is Hannah. Matthew now has 30 days to find a wife named Hannah. I thought it was a great part in the book when he said he was married and his wife's name. You are introduced to Hannah when Matthew arrives back in town. He does not know how he is going to find a women with the name Hannah and is thrilled when he does. Hannah herself is a wonderful character, in the beginning she is a little shy and accepting of her lot in life. As the story and her relationship with Matthew progresses, I felt that Hannah really came into her own. She grew stronger and became a wonderful character. The relationship between Matthew and Hannah has some rough spots but they do work it out. The book also introduces you to the entire Graham family and it will be great to read more about them as the series continue. If you are looking for a great romance book, Matthew is a great book.

Wow, where do I start. Honestly one of the most enjoyable books in a long time. I picked it up and had a hard time putting it down (thank goodness I travel a lot for work and can read!).
Brody is on the hunt for Benji the missing Graham brother. As he sets out on the trail he is shocked to find out that Olivia Graham followed him and is planning on joining him on his search. He does not want her and hopes to convince her that this is not a place she wants to be. Olivia does not back down and proves time and time again that Brody needs her as a partner. I was hooked on Olivia from the beginning.
I will say that I did not like Olivia when she was introduced in the first book, she was a bitch, let’s be honest. But I will admit now that I really like her. Wow, is she a great character. It was great to see the transformation of Olivia from the first book to this one. And Brody, where do I start. The rugged, moody Texas Ranger, he just sounds hot! You knew he was not happy being stuck with Olivia as he searched for her missing brother Benji. The chemistry between them is hot and you can feel that they are into each other. I really enjoyed the steam scenes between them and even their bickering back and forth.
Brody is really, really well done. I got hooked in the story within the first chapter and I was glued to the pages. All the additional characters came together to create a really believable story and at the same time making me emotionally interested in the outcome. You really pull for Brody, Olivia and the Graham family.

This is the third book in Emma Lang's the Circle Eight series. This is the second book in the series to receive a five star rating from me. That is unheard of in my experience.

At times my eyes watered from a touching passage, other times I am speaking out to the hero or heroine, "What on earth are you thinking?" and other moments had a laugh out loud escape.

Caleb is a ranger having to evict a female blacksmith Aurora Foster from the land where her father had taught her her trade. Women cannot own land in Texas in this era.

Aurora (Rory) is fiesty, stubborn, determined and good to the very soul. Caleb is equally as stubborn, determined and crafty. They both have a healthy cuss word vocabulary (none offensive). The challenges they issue each other keeps interest high. The angst in the story is just enough and the passion appropriate.

The quick moving pace of the story holds interest from beginning to end. If you like historic Western Romance, fiesty heros and heroines and large loving families this is for you.

This was my least favourite book in the Lang Heart Series. Lettie has had a horrendous first marriage. Her childhood was not much better. A life of no love, touching, hugs or affection is interupted by only her best friend Angelica.
Shane Murphy has spent much of his adult life trying to run away from himself. His army career and his first marriage keep him awake with nightmares when the booze no longer helps.
With the help of native spirits in the area, they find each other and help each other to find out what this thing called love really is.
Lettie's character is well written and pictured as it should be by her background. But the use of the word ain't grated on my spine too many times. Rough yes, but in your face rough not needed. Shane starts off very well spoken with not a swear word or poor grammar to be found. Granted odd for a man with farming in his background. By the end of the book the ain'ts are popping up just as much for him. I suppose it is Lettie's influence.
This is one of those HEA's that I worry about. Can he stay away from the booze? Can she learn to be touched and hugged and more importantly can she hug a child if one comes along?

Eliza or Liz as Grady likes to call is a Morman who does not follow the faith, but prefers to do experiments and make inventions. Grady is a hired gun. Two less likely people to even meet yet alone fall in love.
Grady is hired to hunt down a run away bride, who just happens to be Eliza's sister. This is a road story. The relationship builds as these two travel many miles to the west looking for their mutual interest person.
The book is in many ways predictable but done in an enticing way that makes you want to see what is around the next corner for these two.
Neither of them are good looking, neither are loved, and neither have confidence in themself. The passion is hot, the writing is good and the story unique. I will read other books in the series.

A hard book to review. The heroine is pushy, bossy and stubborn. The hero is slow to act and lost in his head with all the little details. They are a perfect pair, he needs the kick in the butt she is happy to give and she needs to realise haste is not always the best solution.

Brody is a Texas ranger, looking for the gang that steals children, herds, and what ever else they can get to make a buck. Right now he is looking for the killers of Olivia's parents and hopefully to find her very young brother.

It is an on the road story, of the two off to Mexico. They fall in love and make love on the trail, meet some bad hombres on the way and bring the trouble home with them. Matthew, Olivia's big brother is quick to see the relationship and helps the loner of a ranger Brody to put his feelings into the three magic words.

I just didn't meld with the characters in this book as I had in Matthew, the first book in the series. This is one of those different strokes for different folks kind of book. You may love it. It has all of the things needed to make a great book.

The story had to be told as it was. The questions left from Ruthless Heart had to be answered. What happened to mean first husband Joshiah? Did Angeline grow a spine? Did she get over her first love Johnathan? Who did she end up with? Did she ever see her sister again? All these and more were answered in this book. There just was too much info crammed into the pages.

On the other hand, the story moved quickly both in plot line and location. The character development was very good. I loved the hero Sam Carver. He knew what he wanted from the very first of the book. And he did what he had to to get there. He became a bit wishywashy toward the end when the Denver story came into play. Angel how ever stepped up and supported him. My favourite character was the hero Sam and the hobo Jessup. An enjoyable read. I will be reading Endless Heart next because I want to know about what happens to Lettie. I worry about her.

Matthew Graham is stuck between a rock and a hard place. His parents have been murdered, his five-year-old brother is missing and if he doesn’t go to Houston and claim the 4,000 acres his dad was going to claim the family of eight will lose it and only have the 600 acres to survive on. So, 25-year-old Matt goes to Houston to claim the land only to find out he needs to be married. He says he is, but his wife Hannah stayed home to watch his younger brothers and sisters. He now has 30 days to bring his wife to Houston to sign the land grant papers. The only problem is there is no wife and he doesn’t know anyone named Hannah. Rock meet hard place.

This is a great story that was hard to put down. The characters are interesting and well-developed, the plot is good and the writing flows smoothly. Set in 1836 in the Republic of Texas you really have to feel for Matt as he shoulders the responsibility of the ranch and the care and safety of his six siblings while enduring the pain he feels for his murdered parents and his missing brother. Hannah is a smart and gutsy yet insecure person. An orphan raised by her grandmother, at 23 she’s considered a spinster. A chance meeting with Matt and lucky that her name is Hannah her life takes a sharp right turn.

A first read of Emma Lang for me, I really enjoyed this story and look forward to Book 2 Brody as well as searching out other stories by her.
