'Blak Phoenix' by Cortez Law III

My Perception:

'Black Phoenix' was a gripping new mystery/thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Cortez Law III crafted an intricate plot of twists and turns that left me guessing until the end. The characters were well-developed, and I fully invested in each of their stories. What I appreciated most about this book was how Law III tackled the sensitive topic of the Civil Rights Era and the atrocities that occurred during that time. He did so with great care and respect while delivering an entertaining and thought-provoking read. I highly recommend 'Black Phoenix' to any fans of the mystery/thriller genre.… (mehr)

This is a murder mystery, with an elite group of homicide investigators as the protagonists. It starts out as a case of arson, but quickly involves the homicide team when human remains are found. It should have been a great story, but the writing is so odd that it is nearly incomprehensible. As an example, when one of the detectives is questioning a man who may be a suspect, the detectives asks, “Any known pressure applied to the flesh of your wife for invitations to be her additive?” From the context, he was asking if the suspect’s wife had had any affairs or any offers of an affair. The entire book is like this.
I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book. I used a Scribe to read the Kindle edition of this book. There were occasional chapter numbers in the book (ending at 81), but the Table of Contents only showed some of the chapter headings, and never with the corresponding number.

My Speculation:

Now that Malcolm Hobbs has been suspended from his 'Sergeant of the APD's elite X-Men Homicide Squad,' what will happen when he gets a visit from a visitor that will lodge him into an investigation. This investigation will be one of a 'deadly team of rogue military operatives' who seize the city of Atlanta and have taken two people. Now, who were these two people, and just why were that taken? Who was this enemy with this skilled team that was raining terror on Atlanta?

Be prepared for action, twists and turns, and engaging read that will keep you turning to pages to see what is happening next as we see how Hobbs 'race against time to save and rescue the hostages' in this 'Threat Nexus' read. I don't want to give away any of the story other than to say this is one you will have to pick up and read for yourself to truly understand how well this author presents a well-written story to the readers, and I would recommend this novel for a good read.… (mehr)

"Shadow Doctors" by Cortez Law III

My Rationalization:

With murder being on the uprise in Atlanta for the city's privileged citizens, how will Sergeant Hobbs with the help of the 'elite X-Men Homicide Detective Squad' take down these criminals? This is quite an adventure seeing just how this squad will be able to stop these criminals. By the end when the squad thinks they are dealing with one type of criminals the real ones will show their hand. To find out how this will all go down you will have to pick up 'Shadow Doctors' to see just who the real criminals really were and just how this Squad were able to take them down before they were able to 'carry out their ominous plans.' I found this short story will definitely keep your attention to the end.… (mehr)
