Beautiful story! Appropriate for anyone who loves a gentle fairy tale. The story is intelligent, occasionally funny, and the protagonist and her companions are darlings. It is also beautifully written and an ode to Winter. I was enchanted and surprised at how much I loved this story. Looking forward to continuing this tale.

I received a copy from the author in exchange for honest opinion.

I thought this was a really cute read! The story introduces us to Bettony, a 12 year old girl who thinks that she is very ugly and her life cannot continue if she doesn't do something about how she looks. So the only thing that she can think of is to visit her Grandmother who can do magic and can make her pretty. After getting the potions and coming home, she ends up turning her sister into a toad and even though she becomes beautiful on the outside, the things do not get better.

This was a great book for middle graders but the way it was written made me think of a young adult lady who tries to figure herself out and not a 12 year old who just starting out her life. It was written more as a fairy tale so it makes sense but I would want to see less complicated relationship situation. But overall I really enjoyed it and think the author did an amazing job! 3 Stars!

I love when an author comes up with a fairy tail and adds in a few twists and turns from classics. This book is a bit slow to begin with but once it gets going, it's really cute. The behavior between the sisters really grabs a reader and makes then think of the relationship they have with their own siblings. This book is full of magic and life lessons that the sisters, and in essence the reader, learn as the book carries on.
