I liked the concept for the book. But the poor editing merits the low rating.

This is a beautiful bedtime book that uses a traditional German Lullaby as the text. The lullaby has been translated to English and some other verses have been added. This is a simple, repetitive book that will lull children to sleep. If you want, you can find the lullaby on youtube to play after the story is finished. The illustrations are beautifully done with the families in silhouette against colourful washed backgrounds. A great addition to a family library. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via netgalley.

This is a cute beginning to read story. It is made up of 18 words that have a lot of repetition. The illustrations are large, colourful and inviting. I read this to my grandson who is three and he liked it. This would be a great book for a grade one classroom where the children are learning. This would also help to develop confidence in those who are a little farther along in their reading ability. I recommend this book for family and primary class libraries. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via netgalley.

I am a Pink Pig is the first book in the Reading Stars series. Reading Stars are simple stories with repetitive words, this book has 13 words total with great colourful pictures that also provide clues to the text. A silly and simple story about a pig that is pink. He goes through various colours that he is not as well as different animals. A cute story for those beginning readers in your life. This would be a great book for a kindergarten or grade 1 classroom or family library where young readers are learning as well as to help them develop confidence and the love of reading. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via netgalley.

Calee Lee has written a cute book that shows how much a child is love. This is the perfect book for a parent or grandparent to read to their child while they snuggle with them in their lap.

An absolutely adorable Halloween themed counting book perfect for young kids learning to count and older kids who just want to have some fun with it.

Perfect for parents, teachers and librarians to have in their collection as it's a simple and safe story to read to the youngest of us all. Despite the Halloween theme there is nothing here too scary so as a parent I'd recommend it.

I AM a pink cat!
Now that I have grandchildren with whom I can share children's books, I have started to review a few more of them. This one was given to me by NetGalley in return for an honest review, so I tried it out on my 20 month granddaughter. Obviously she isn't starting to read yet, but this book works on two levels - as a simple book to read to a small child and as an early reader to a child who is ready to learn to read words.

On an initial read it seemed to be a great success - the Pink Pig introduces himself and then explains that he's not a blue, green or red pig - although the background colour is changing accordingly. On a second read through, I realised that her reaction had changed when we came to the next few pages - an illustration of a pink cat says "I am not a pink cat", similarly a pink dog, a pink turtle and a pink bird, all claim not to be what they are clearly illustrated as. If a 20 month child can spot that this is rather incongruous, I can't really recommend this book.

The illustrations are cute and the words are fine for young learners, so this book still has value, but it also has a glaring error. Maybe something can be done on a second printing to correct this.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, Xist Publishing.

A comforting bedtime read.
A beautifully illustrated book for very young children that helps them to unwind at bedtime. The repetition of the phrase 'sleep tight' is perfect for young audiences. The animals are a mixture of the familiar (snakes, rabbits, birds) and the less familiar (deer, beavers, fireflies) which helps children add to their knowledge of the wild.

I read this to my 20 month granddaughter and she loved it. She also loves that it's on my Kindle Fire (and therefore in colour) and that she can share something on this device that she knows I value. She enjoyed turning the pages for herself and exclaiming at each animal, often with their young.

Now that I have grandchildren I can discover a whole world of new children's books :)

I Love You! by Calee M. Lee
Children's colorful illustrated book about how a parent shows their child that they love them.
Besides using animals that are familiar they also show the action that is being talked about.
Like shooting star the best but they are all good. Other works by the author are highlighted at the end.

This is the story of Empress Helena, mother of Constantine. In the story when she visits Cypress with a holy gift she realizes the people are unable to worship in their church because of snakes. The Empress sends a gift to Cypress that will make it possible for people to worship once again. Read this historical book to find out what gift she sends and with whom she trusts the gift.

It’s Little Owl’s birthday and she just can’t wait for her birthday party. She tries to help her mama set up, but mama doesn’t seem to want her help. So she gets angry. She just wants to help so the party comes faster, but mama doesn’t seem to want her around. Can Little Owl be patient until her party starts? This charming little story features brightly colored, adorable illustrations. Little Owl’s impatience and excitement will resonate with children who will enjoy her story. Maybe they’ll even learn that patience pays off in the end. The book is intended for young kids from three to five years old. This book is available as a Kindle e-book, but it may be better off as a physical book. With the e-book, only one page can be seen at a time and some pages are just text with a colored background. The book would likely flow better as a physical book. Nevertheless, it is a cute birthday story with colorful owls.

I thought this book was completely silly. First, the pictures came before the words. Second, the pictures aren't drawings, they are polaroids of a little girl with a puffy thing that sometimes doesn't look like a real caterpillar. Maybe, it's me, but I dont get this book. I wouldn't buy it nor would I show or read it to a child. There are many more interesting and beautifully illustrated books out there. I'm giving it a two star rating for the cute little girl and I guess the effort. Otherwise, it would be a -0.

This is a historical fiction story about a real princess that lived years ago. Little Princess Audrey had everything she could want. She had lots of dresses and lots of necklaces. She loved her necklaces. One day she put on her favorite necklace and went to the church to light a candle for her sick sister. She loved the peacefulness of the church. Suddenly it wasn’t so peaceful. There was a lady with a crying baby praying. Audrey mentioned the crying baby. The baby grabbed her hand and necklace. When Audrey tried to hand the baby back it was tangled in her necklace. She told the mother that she thought the baby was hungry. Food is what the lady had been praying for. When Audrey realized they had no food she gave the woman her neck to sell and buy food. When she went home her mother found her crying in a closet. She was so sad that they had so much and there were so many who had nothing. Her mother talked with her about her kind heart and doing what was right.
She grew up and became queen. She continued to give away her possessions to help the poor. When she had given everything away she became a nun to continue to help others. This was a wonderful story of compassion and giving of yourself. It is wonderful to find such wonderful and motivating stories based on history for children.

This is a very cute little book that shows children that humans are very different from animals. The little girl in the story learns that caterpillars can't be concerned with checking email. After all, they have better things to do, such as turning into a beautiful butterfly!

I'm so bummed this book never showed up. As someone who was educated in Ireland, it is always nice to receive more information on subjects that interest me. I am hoping that reaching out to one of the authors will remedy this unprofessional failure on their part, but I doubt it. One star.

**update**

I finally got this book. I can’t remember if I pestered the right people, or just finally bought it on a commerce site that rhymes with shamazon. Either way, I’m updating my rating because it is a cute book, the creativity of the family alone is worth it, and many Americans like myself might not know the true story of St Patrick. I’m sure many people in Boston wouldn’t. Is it a hair over the line too preachy, yeah, but if you can get past that, it’s informative and cute.½
