As college Spanish textbooks go, I imagine this one is mostly similar to all the others. And that's not meant to detract from its usefulness, but rather to highlight how difficult it is to judge one really good textbook from another. In fact, I found the content here easy to navigate and relevant—a nice mix of grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing exercises and cultural immersion.

On the larger topic of actually speaking Spanish fluently versus taking a class for credit, I maintain my belief that there's a vast difference between learning a language and learning how to be good at taking foreign language courses.… (mehr)
