I was given a complimentary copy by the author for review, and would first like to say thank-you for the opportunity to read it.
To be honest I prefer my vampires to have a less romantic quality and be a bit more bloodthirsty and vicious. However, that being said it was still a well written and enjoyable story. I would recommend it for fans of paranormal romance.

Barok's Exodus is the second book in the Stritonoly Chronicles by William L.K. The first in the series was The Eye of the Storm, which I reviewed earlier. Barok's Exodus takes up six years after the destructive storm and failed takeover attempt of Princess Becki. The Stritonians have a new Czar and have built a new capital, returning to business as usual with the acidel slave race mining the precious prurock stones. Princess Becki has been in jail the whole time, and little Barok the acidel is still mining prurock. This doesn't hold true for long as Princess Becki schemes for her freedom and Barok begins a life-altering journey.

I enjoyed this book more than the first in the series, probably because I already was acquainted with the characters and had an attachment to them. The author gets the action going quickly and keeps the suspense tight throughout. I read it in one sitting, not because it was a short book (which it is), but because I had to find out what would happen to Barok and Princess Becki. The ending wasn't very satisfactory, but it did set me up waiting impatiently for the third book to be released, which it was on May 19th!

The Eye of the Storm by William L.K.is a science fiction novel set on the planet of Stritonoly and on Earth. There are two parallel stories that run through the book, a dying girl on Earth and a self-destructive power-hungry son of the Czar on Stritonoly. This is the first of three books set on Stritonoly.

It's hard to say much about the plot of the novel because I don't want to give anything away. A young girl has been in a car accident on Earth and is dying in the hospital. Dmitri, the son of the Czar of Stritonoly has become addicted to a drug found in the sweat of the planet's slave race, the Acidel's.

This book really has me puzzled. Truthfully, when I first started reading it, I didn't like it. I got confused with the switching between worlds, it seemed too strange having a drug coming from sweat. But, I kept reading. William L.K. does a great job with description, the world is dark and bleak, the tenseness builds. I couldn't help but get caught up in the story, then the twist ending! Sorry, no hints!

So, all in all, I think this was a good story. It's a short novel, just over one hundred pages. Give it a try!

The Eye of the Storm is the first book in a new Science Fiction/Fantasy from The Stritonoly Chronicles. William L. K. takes the reader into the unknown world of Stritonoly and introduces us to the inhabitants who dwell there.

The Acidel, native to the planet, are a peculiar looking, slave race that work, without question, to mine the Purock, a strange, mesmerizing purple rock that can be turned into highly prized works of art. Their sweat is poisonous to the humans who control them, and great measures are taken in the collection of and disposal of Acidel sweat. The great law states that anyone who ingests it, dies instantly.

The Acidel are ruled by a upper elite class of people who view the Acidel as the dregs of society and the only reward ever given to the slaves, is a cavern in which they are allowed to sleep. Sweating too much or slacking in work ethics is punishable by death, the Acidel accept this as part of their due and never complain. However, it has come to the Czar's attention that his son may be imbuing the Acidel sweat and plans are made to annihilate the Acidel and remove the threat of their sweat once and for all. The young man, who has an agenda of his own, believing the mind altering Acidel sweat will give him all he has ever dreamed of, sets in motion a plan of destruction, danger and the collapse of a nation.

I was a little confused when I began reading the book, we are also giving glimpses of a dying girl on Earth, and the first couple of times I read the "chapter", I thought the author had left a memo in his .pdf file and it wasn't til nearing the end of the story, that I realized it was part OF the story. I liked the tie in of the girl with the people on Stritonoly, even though I didn't quite "get it" at first, the explanations of all who make up the people of Stritonoly kind of reminded me from a scene from The Wizard of Oz. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, Barok's Exodus, and learning more about the Acidels and those who control their destinies.

SYNOPSIS:
Dmitri, son of the Czar of Stritonoly, driven insane by the forbidden poison of the slave-race Acidel sets in motion a catastrophic chain of events. A terrifying and eternal force stalks the forest nearby as a storm of epic proportions gathers over the Citadel.
