Long on training and short on combat. Training was expansive as he cycled through the many planes; Hellcats, Skyraiders and Corsairs as assault bombers and night-fighters, that were available as WW2 was closing. Indicated that the primary role for the development of the Skyraider was to shoot down kamikazes which I had not seen stated before. Despite its intents, the Skyraider was an outstanding close air support plane as was the Corsair.
Good glimpses of wartime and tween war time as he went from training sites to home and then on to the next site. Lively, guy, met him at WW2 Day in Reading, who, interestingly, became an orthodontist. A product of not so gentle days as a farm boy who went to war, served his country well and returned home to become successful family man and citizen.… (mehr)
