On a rainy day this summer, i found refuge in the bookshop of Fort William, and stumbled upon this novel, by a local author. I love reading local books when travelling, so decided to buy it.
I didn't get round to reading it untill i got back home, but it was nice to be reminded of the beauties of Scotland while reading this novel. Even though i didn't run into any dead bodies during my trip, quite unlike the people in this novel.
It's about 5 young women who live in an imaginary town called Glasdrum, and are somehow related (by friendship, family or work). There is a lot going on: a body buried in a garden, men falling to their deaths at a dangerous spot in the mountains, family problems, drugtrade, incest, abuse, neglect, mothers not coping with their kids, sexual violence at the workplace. All of this told from 5 different perspectives. Honestly, it was a bit too much, too many themes and too many voices. I felt that en editor would have been a good idea, to get more focus into the story. Now none of the characters were worked out properly, and neither were the plotlines.
