The book Flip, Float, Fly by JoAnn Early Macken is about how different types of seeds may travel around and then grow in different environments. It also talks about different ways seeds are held like fruit, seedpods, and flowers. I would read this book in a classroom lesson on seeds, and how plants grow. Plants can't grow without seeds so I would build this background knowledge before going into what happens to the seed once it is planted. Personally I liked this book. I think it was full of good information and had great illustrations to show what is happening to each seed, and even what different seeds look like!

I love that this book has a nice rhythm to it and uses so many pleasing alliterations that just roll off the reader's tongue. "Carrying seeds, each side scoots along, SKITTER and skate!" The book also utilizes so many onomatopoeias which are a fun way to introduce vocabulary. I loved this book so much because it has plenty of aesthetic illustrations, helpful infographics, and the author uses literary devices in such a clever way. I would use this book alongside the book Plants that Feed me by Lizzy Rockwell during a fruit and vegetable unit.

Describes the process of building a bridge; text on the left, photos (some labeled) on the right. There's a glossary in back, and a short bibliography for further reading (books and online). The page numbers are inside cute little traffic cones!

A little boy starts singing from the time he wakes up in the morning to the time he goes to bed. When the little boy wakes up he sees and hears a robin and starts to sing right along with the robin. The little boy sees a bee and a squirrel and sings right along with them as well. Also the little boy see his dog and sings right along with him. He also sings along with the cat. Then when the little boy's father comes home he sings along with his father. When it was time to eat dinner, he sings along with his mother, father and sister. When it was time for his sister go to sleep, she sing along with her. When the little boy is about to go to sleep himself, he thinks about his day and how he will sing again and he sings along with himself. This book can make the readers use their imagination and be able to use it with the outside world.½

Waiting Out the Storm is a very good book that shows a little girl and her mother are about to get some rain in their area. When the little girl starts to hear a noise, she asks her mother what it is and her mother says that its the wind. Then the little girl asks her mother more questions about the weather. Then her mother answers the questions the little girl had. The little girl then asks her mother what will the turtles will do. Her mother then answers that they like to be out in the rain. After that the little girl continues to ask where certain animals were going to go during the storm. her mother then proceeds to answer the little girls question about where the animals will go during the storm. Finally, the little girl and her mother go inside so they wouldn't get wet and safe from the storm. Also so that they can have one another during the storm. The drawings in this book makes the reader be able to see and understand what the author is trying to get across to the reader. This book is showing readers that everyone should have a safe place to go to during a storm or during a hard time.

A girl and her mother are outside when a thunderstorm approaches. The girl asks her mother about all the different noises in the natural world, and what the animals do, when the rain falls. The mother answers and, as the two make their way inside and watch the storm from the comfort of their house, they wait out the storm.

A young child and her mother sit inside a cozy house and discuss what's happening with the weather and the animals outside. The words are descriptive and bring out the poetic nature in weather.

This was such a cute book! The baby in the book says that everything says moo. His parents ask him what horses say, what dogs say, and what people say. His favorite thing to say is moo.

I really enjoyed the gentle, rhyming text and the soft color illustrations fit wonderfully. This book was like a reassuring lullabye that I think children and their mothers would both enjoy.

“Teachers” by JoAnn Early Macken, is a great book out of the “People in My Community” series. The main aspect of this book that I enjoyed was the fact that it included so many extra textual features, even though it is a very simple book. The book includes a table of contents, labeled pictures, bolded words that are included in a glossary, and an index. Not only do these features make the text easy to navigate, but it also exposes early readers to important features that they will come across in reading all throughout their lives. It is important for students to be familiar with, and understand these types of features from a young age. I also enjoyed the pictures that were included in the book. Even though the topic was teachers, the pictures all included students, about the age of those that would be reading this book. This makes the book much more relatable to a young reader than only having photographs of adults. The main idea of the book is to teach children all about the different responsibilities that teachers hold.½

I thought this was a pretty decent book. One thing I liked about it was how each word related to karate was also shown to the reader in Japanese. For example, the karate teacher or instructor is called “sensei” in Japanese. This not only teaches the reader about karate but it also teaches the reader different words in Japanese. Another thing I liked about the book was the bolded words throughout the book and the glossary in the back. Throughout the book there was certain vocabulary words in bolded print and they were defined in the back of the book. For example, words like “block” and “stance” are bolded in the book and are defined in the glossary. The main theme of this book is to walk the reader through a karate class and to teach them about karate.

A book that I would choose had I had the opportunity to improve my grade for the read-aloud assignment. Sing-Along song is about a cute cuddly boy who is singing while rhyming with the animals, his dad, and other animals that get in his way. It is about an African American boy in his neighborhood having fun all round his area of residence. A fun good happy read that lifts your mood to a better one. The age level for this book is for K-3.

Waiting out the storm: I felt this story was sweet and good for parents to read to their children. It talks of the relationship children have with their parents so I don’t think it would be very appropriate to use this in the classroom.

Summary
Their book covers three types of wetlands, swamps, marshes and bogs. It talks about plants, animals and insects that live in each one and how they use one another to live comfortably.

Personal reaction
I thought it was a fun little book which helped me to learn, I didn't even know there was such things s a bog before this. It's short enough that it can keep the attention of young children pretty easily and is full of information.

Class extension
Bring in three pictures, or pull them up on the smart board so that children get a bigger view of what each may look like.

Talk about the circle of life within each of the three different wetlands and compare it to one they may know more about.

There are many different kinds of seeds and plants. This book describes each one of them. It explains the cycle they go through. It is beautifully illustrated. This book would be good to show a science class to introduce plants.

Personal Response:
This book was full of information and had great illustrations to go with it.
