A sequel to "Call the Nurse". Here again a nurse's compassion meets Gaelic fortitude in these true tales of a bygone era. We meet the crofters Archie, Mary, and Fergie, and other friends There are stories of troubles, joy, and tragedy and acts of simple courage and uncommon generosity.

Nothing fancy, nothing intellectual, but a loving look at a people and their culture in the far norther islands of Scotland. The author’s love of the place and characters shines through but the writing is pedestrian. Some of the incidents are interesting but this book could have benefitted from a professional ghostwriter. Still worth a quick read if you’re at all interested in the Scottish Isles.… (mehr)

Another pleasant non-fiction story of the life of a Scotland Island district nurse and her family, before they relocate to the USA for a work contract for the main breadwinner.

I live deep in the southern hemisphere, but have travelled and stayed on a Hebridean Island, and therefore really enjoyed reading about the lives and work experiences of locals, albeit from a decade or two ago. I found this an easy book to read, to pick up and put down, or have a longer session.
