Author: Mamta Kashyap
Format: Kindle
Book Title:
The title of the book ‘ Unusual Honeymoon ‘ is interesting and exciting.
Book Cover:
The cover image of the book is an animated picture of a vintage car and luggage. The car also has a face, that is usually in children’s cartoons.
My review:
Marriage is a commitment and is a life-long bond is what is propagated in general. But, there are lives where even the casual co-existence becomes difficult and hence partners part. The parting may be smooth for some people or very rough too! In this story, two central characters Mahasweta and Rahul, go through the separation from the wedlock individually.
I guess the author has chosen the character’s name Mahasweta after the great woman author Mahasweta Devi. I felt that the author Mamta Kashyap was inclined to sketch the character of Mahasweta. The characteristics of the character resonate with a few traits of yesteryear’s author’s characters. The women and her dignity is shown in a wonderful manner. Though funny fiction, there are such wonderful elements hidden in the story. There are many points that are discussed in the story in layers with a humour face.
Kudos to author Mamta Kashyap.
What I like:
1. The character of Mahasweta, the central character is a reflection of a strong, dynamic and responsible woman who can be our neighbour or a friend or even our sister, whose life is at crossroads that needs a destination. This situation is explained very realistically.
2. The emotions and feelings of wanting and being loved are beautifully crafted.
3. At times, the story seems lighthearted, but the intention behind suffices it.
4. The patriarchal traditions that always curb a woman’s mind and freedom are expressed very subtly.
5. The innate fear of society amongst people is described well.
6. The programmed minds of people about marriage, relationships, and emotions are shown correctly.
What I didn’t like:
Somewhere I felt the story lost its seriousness and became a usual one in the bandwagon of new age stories.
Characters:
All the characters are crafted well with sufficient space and dialogue. Some more strength to the characters could have been given.
Narration:
The narration in this book is engaging. With colloquial and appealing language, the author has very well managed to capture a reader’s mind.
Language & Grammar:
A fine language with good vocabulary is used in the book.
My Final Verdict:
A good story with a touch of humour.
