"My Mommy Wears Combat Boots" by Sharon McBride is a story outlining the life o many military children throughout the country. It details the process of deployments, the emotions children feel and the comfort that their parents and families give them to help them overcome the fear and sadness. One extension activity for this book would be to have children write a letter to a soldier and to send them to soldiers that are fighting overseas. Another activity would be to read this book as part of a Veteran's Day unit, and to have them write a fact sheet about Veteran's Day and how it became a holiday, as a part of the Veteran's Day academic unit.… (mehr)
