Daniel and His walking stick is the sweet story of a small girl who decides to adopt Daniel as her grandpa. Daniel is an old family friend who taught the little girl's mother how to fish. The main character's grandfathers have passed away, and she is sad not to have a living grandpa. When she meets Daniel during summer vacation, she decides he will become her 3rd.

I enjoyed reading this story. Children who are in a similar situation would enjoy this book. I have to say that when I sat down to read this story I did not think it would be about grandfathers. I found that the story got me thinking about things my grandfather used to do. It made me miss him in a bittersweet way. I think that many people can relate to losing a grandparent. I hope that as they read this they will also have fond memories to think of.… (mehr)

Daniel and His Walking Stick by Wendy McCormick is a very sweet book about a young girl who deep down is struggling with not having a grandfather. The book is written from the little girl's point of view which really helps the reader relate to her feelings. The little girl and her family go on a vacation to the country where her mom's parents use to take her when she was a little girl. While on their trip, the little girl meets a man named Daniel who seems to always be carrying a walking stick around with him. The little girl was really fascinated by Daniel's walking stick. The little girl learns a lot from Daniel as he shares stories about her grandfather and knowledge about birds and different things in nature. After spending several days going on nature walks together, Daniel finds the little girl a walking stick of her own. She takes her walking stick back to the city and uses it all the time. She finds that the walking stick makes her much more observant of her surroundings and learns a lot more all because of Daniel. Daniel and the little girl become very close and in the end the little girl tells her parents that she has three grandfathers. She tells them about the two she did not really get to know and also about Daniel who has a walking stick just like her.… (mehr)
