This book has been prepared to assist the flute player in learning intermediate-level skills
including tone development, rhythmic accuracy, musical interpretation, and beginning
composition. An intermediate-level flute player has played through a beginning-level
book in band for one or two years and has begun to approach two-octave scales, a higher
level of reading complicated rhythms, and a desire to work on tone development,
technique and overall musicianship. This book has also been prepared to assist the
private teacher in providing guidelines to life-long practice habits for the student. The
main concept being emphasized is for the student to follow the guidelines set up for a
productive, consistent, and healthy practice session, and the ability to understand
rhythmic concepts, musical terms and interpretation, and to apply these to their playing of
