4.5/5 stars
I received an ebook copy of this novel from the author in return for an honest review.
When I read the blurb of this book, I wasn't sure what to think, I thought it sounded intrigiung but I was worried it might be too similar to other things I've read.
I was pleasantly surprised by this novel, I really enjoyed it.
The only reason this novel doesn't get 5 stars is for the beginning. I didn't like the start, and it didn't fill me with hope for the rest of the novel, but it soon picked up.
This is a fast paced novel, the plot moves along at a nice quick pace, meaning as a reader you're never bored. The idea for a plot is also a good one, the science/family mystery that Didi is trying to solve, whilst also trying to stay hidden is intriguing. Hopefully more will learnt in the next installment. I enjoyed this mystey aspect, it raised the novel above just a normal romance novel.
The characters were excellent, the main character Didi seemed like a normal girl, she wasn't amazingly brave or "superhuman". She reacted to her situation in a human way, she had flaws just like we humans have. She was very independant, and she coped with running away very well. She had a very fiery temper too, which was entertaining to read about.
Didi's love interest Tom was a good character, not quite a developed as Didi, but hopefully he will feature more in the following novel.
The four young adult characters in the novel: Didi, Tom, Zander and Julia contrasted nicely with each other, they were different, but made a nice team towards the end of the novel, if only it could have lasted a bit longer! The banter between the 4 was amusing, and provided some light relief towards the end of the novel, when things were getting serious.
I liked the change of setting from London to Dartmoor, the novel changed with the setting. Didi's struggle to get out of London contrasted nicely with how calm and almost boring she finds Dartmoor.
I really enjoyed the ending to this novel, it was a nail biting cliff-hanger, which left me wishing I had the sequel right there to read.
I would recommend this novel to everyone if you enjoy an action/adventure novel with romance mixed in then this book is for you.
