Summary:
The largest liquified natural gas tanker in the world, the Prometheus, is entering New York harbor to make a delivery. An unseen obstruction floating loose in the water strikes and damages the hull of the vessel…causing a leak of dangerous cryogenicly cold gas. Millions of gallons of explosive 260 degree below zero methane gas are now streaming from the LNG tanker. New York and her people fight for their lives.

Genre:
Disaster

Main Character:
Cybil Yale

Favorite Character:
Hal. Hal is a crotchety man, polio survivor, and self made millionaire/pauper/millionaire who acts to save himself and the people around him. And Elliot, the trainman. He took the dangerous job of making the final run into Coney Island as the impugning cloud of frozen death came for the people waiting in the station for the last train out.

Least Favorite Character:
The Mayor. It was his fault. His son went out drinking and raising hell…including dumping some light poles into the river…which then floated down stream and contributed to the navigational hazard that caused the disaster.

Favorite Scene:
Where Elliot has to get the two teenagers and kids up and moving off of the derailed train in the dark tunnell.

Plot Holes/Out of Character:
Didn’t like that the Mayor and his son escaped their share of the blame for what happened with the light poles.

Last Page Sound:
I love a good disaster novel.

Author Assessment:
I’ve never seen another book by this author. I need to look for more by this author. He played heavily on the expository plank but considering the need for the reader to have an idea of what is going on with the LNG industry as it relates to the overall story.

Disposition of Book:
Keeping it. Probably re-reading it at some future point.
